Newbie with some questions.

By CartooN, in Anima: Beyond Fantasy RPG

Hello.

Not only am I new to anima Im totally inexperienced with RPGs as well, so I just have a couple of questions.

First off is can I buy the box set and be good to go with this game. Are any of the expanions or extras requirements to play?

And secondly, how many players is anima for? I know some RPGs you can play on your own, can this be played alone? Ands whats the maximum number of players you can have?

Thats all my questions so far anyways :) thanks all.

Hi,

The game is completely playable with just the core rulebook and it is playable with only one player, aside from the gamemaster (the person who makes the story, and npcs), but it would work better with 3 or 4 players if you are looking for a more interesting game.

Yeah, there is no "box set".

There's the Core Rules, and yes you can play with just that and some dice.

I'd recommend getting at least "Gaia: Beyond The Dreams" though, as it gives you a really good insight into how the world works.

Thanks for the replies all!

So am I to understand from this it has a minimum of 2 players? Someone as GM and someone to play?

That's pretty much the bare minimum for ANY roleplaying game.

Ok thanks. Like I said I know very little about the game genre in general. But I know some Fantasy Flight games like Arkham Horror can be played alone so I just wondered.

I thought the genre sounded interesting but it might be something Id have trouble convincing others to play. Maybe I'll try the card game, the Anima universe just looked appealing to me.

Hi welcome to the forums ^.^

If your looking for players i'd hit up the game store your buying it from and tell him your planning on running it. Store owners LOVE to see people come in to their store and buy stuff. If you get players they might stuff (the books and dice). Getting a group and figuring it out for the first time is one of the hardest parts. If you can tell a good story and manage players you can run the game everything else (including the system) is secondary.

I don't know how your store owner is but mine has tables in the back and will advertise your campaign. Some stores like roleplayers more than card gamers (i bounce between two). So keep that in mind if the guy seems hesitant to order more books after you buy one.
