How are you all playing the game and it is not released???

By MrHemlocks, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I was going to buy the beginers box set but now I see that many people are playing this game and it is not even out yet? How? Alos, is the intro box set and intro for this game or just a stand alone game till this one is released?

The beta came out at GenCon 2012. That's what we're playing

Yep, what Caine said. FFG printed 5000 copies, sold* some at GC2012 in Aug, sold some on their website, and distributed the rest to secondary retailers (game stores, online stores, etc) I think they sold out in like really early September.

But yeah, all the Beta "patch notes" with specific page references really wouldn't be very useful if we didn't have pages to refer to.

The Beginners Box is NOT the complete game. That should be obvious, since it comes with dice, rules, maps and tokens, but has an MSRP half that of the corebook. Hell, even the 3.5 players handbook cost more than $30 when it was released 10 years ago. If you care to read an extended… discourse about disappointment surrounding this fact, you can read through this thread . The content in the BB sounds to be built on a simplified set of the EotE rules (I don't own it), so I'd assume that it's compatible with the full set, but I'm not sure if there's been any indication they'll be pushing the story lines foward beyond what's been published/posted.

Near as I can tell, the only thing the beginners box is really missing are the rules for character creation (including the Force and playing species/careers that aren't featured among the pre-gen characters) and obligation.

If you're happy to play using the pre-gens, the beginner box really does have enough content to run a full mini-campaign, that should tide a group over until the full rules are released.

Well that is good to here as I just boaght the Beginners set. I am looking for character sheets so that I don't have to mess up the beautiful character folios that came with the set. I was told that I might be able to find some blank character sheet shere that I could transer the Folio data to. Any ideas? I'm certain that I will be investing in the big book when it comes out. (Probably that slick Master's Kit too.)

I'm just getting into traditional RPG via this game and I'm looking forward to it. As far ast the Beta goes… Should I jus wait for the big book at this point?

You can find a form-fillable PDF character sheet for use with the Beginner Game here .

If you're desperate for a set of Beta rules, you can find a copy on Ebay, though the going price tends to be a bit high. If it were me, I'd probably just wait until the full version of the book came out in a few months.

Unless you're *really* impatient, I'd just stick to the beginners box for the next couple of months. Assuming one session per week of 2-4 hours, the beginner box + downloadable adventure from FFG should have enough content to see you through until the release of the final book.

Yeah. That's the way I was leaning anyway. I mainly just want to avoid damaging those beutiful folios! Also, that link in your siggy was help too! Thanks!

Same here, my group has 2 Beta books as well as all the updates/errata.
