Ambush ! (A New Campaign Mission)

By Englishpete, in X-Wing Battle Reports

Following the successful evacuation of Outpost 7 Rebel command in the sector has learned of an Imperial spy who is being escorted to a rendevous with an Imperial Star Destroyer. The spy has information damaging to both the rebellion and the Empire. Your squad has been tasked with the mission of either catching or killing him.

Field of Play

Set up a 3' by 6' play area. The Rebel and Empire teams take it in turns to place 12 asteroids on the field. No asteroid can be within range 1 of another asteroid or range 1 of a play field edge.

Each asteroid is marked with a number, 1 through 12.

Empire Force

Lambda Class Shuttle (PS2, A2, D1, H6, S4, Move as a Y-Wing, use a large ship base)

2 Escort Tie Fighters (these will be scaled to match the players level)

Rebel Forces

The player ships

Set Up Rules

The Empire Player sets up the shuttle in the middle of a short table edge. Each Tie Fighter must be within range 1 of the shuttle.

The rebel players can either set up in the normal fashion on the half way point in the playing area or, they may secretly take a corresponding asteroid number and hide it under theor ship card.

If they chose 1 or more ships to do this, then they are considered to be waiting in the shadow of the asteroid. They can be revealed in one of two ways.

The rebel player reveals the asteroid number they hid earlier and places their ship centered on the asteroid facing any direction they wish and assigns a movement dial as per normal rules and then plays as normal. This can be done at the start of any turn. They take no damage from the asteroid in this initial reveal and move.

OR

If an Imperial ship ends its move within range 2 of the rebel ships asteroid then the rebel player must place their ship centered on the asteroid facing in any direction. They may not move this turn, but may fire primary weapons.

Victory Conditions

The Empire win by moving the shuttle of off the opposite narrow table edge.

The rebels win by either destroying the shuttle or crippling it and destroying its escort fighters. (If the shuttle is destroyed the rebels may either break off their attack or continue to try and take out the escort fighters for more Mission Points.)

To cripple the shuttle, once all the shuttle's shields are down and it starts taking hull point damage it loses one movement dial level per hull point lost until it can no longer move at all. At this point it is considered crippled. (If however the rebels accidentally reduce it to zero hull points whilst attempting a cripple it is still destroyed, the exception to this is if the Shuttle is down to 1 speed moves and is hit by an ion cannon, it is instantly crippled and not destroyed even if the ion shot would otherwise destroy it).

Mission Points

Normal Mission Point scoring applies plus.

2 Mission Points for destroying the shuttle

4 Mission Points for crippling the shuttle and destroying it's escorts, thus capturing the spy.

I'm going to work on some 3d asteroids this week.

Very cool. Look forwards to seeing them.
