Outpost 7 evacuated (2 campaign mission reports)

By Englishpete, in X-Wing Battle Reports

Mission 1 Discovered

The two rebel rookies sped their X-Wings out of the hanger and into space, racing through the asteroid field in response to the sighting of 4 tie fighters closing on their hidden base.

The four ties broke formation, one hanging back to try and get out of rebel jamming range, two arced at one of the incoming rebels and one headed for the other, looking to get behind him.

The two sides traded manuveres and fire and one of the rebel pilots took severe hits and ended up with two ties on his tail. The second rookie aced one of the ties but his colleague faired not so well and his ship was left floating junk in space.

The remaining 3 ties turned on the other rebel and although the rebel pilot accounted for another tie he was gunned down.

The ties retreated and called in the base location.

The rebels would need to evacuate.

This was our first mission in our campaign and the two rebel players choose for their PS 1 pilots to be in X-Wings (total value 42 pts) the imperials were flying 4 PS1 Tie fighers.

The rebels had to destroy the four ties within 12 turns or their base was discovered. As it turned out, they both got shot down in the asteroid field, one pilot suffering at the hands of two ties and an asteroid strike.

Mission points went 2 for Tim due to his two kills, none to Ron.

Both pilots had to make damage rolls and both ended with ship damage, we decided Tim could allocate damage to his newly pusrchased R5 droid (used mission points to buy an R2 and R5 droid) and Ron decided to keep his X-Wing in the hanger and fly a YT-1300 in mission 2 as his X-Wing had been damaged and would have had to fly with either a shield less or one less hull point. ( I am allowing players one of each rebel ship to fly, but any upgrades purchased are specific to the ship they are fitted to.)

Mission 2 Evacuate

The two rebel pilots flew out to meet the incoming ties, they would need to buy time to evacuate their ground crews from the asteroid base.

Two ties honed into view and the rebels moved to engage, the X-Wing, with new R2 droid sped through the asteroid field and the YT-1300 skimmed the left side.

Battle was joined and the rebel X-Wing downed two ties only to see re-enforcements fly into the fray. The X-Wing took a battering and was left floating in space, but the YT-1300 was able to keep the Empire occupied long enough to evacuate the ground crews.

Victory to the Rebels.

This scenario called for the rebels to fly on the same field (asteroids were left as placed in scenario 1) and hold of the Empire for 8 turns. The Emipire started with two PS 1 Ties and get two more in turn 2. Then 1 more per turn, with a max of 4 on the board at any one time. By the last turn, 2 ties were down as was the X-Wing, but the YT-1300 hung in there with 1 Hull Point left to take the victory.

Mission points were as follows.

Tim:

2 points for the two kills

.5 for dieing in a successful mission

2 points for reaching the mission objective of evacuating the base.

Ron

1 point for surviving a successful mission

2 points for reaching the mission objective

Overall, Tim now has 6.5 mission points and Ron 3. Tim has purchased 2 droids for his X-Wing, PS 2 for his Pilot and Squad Leader. Ron is thinking about his purchases.

Tim has 4 kills. (I'm making up some rank insignia based on kills, Tim is one away from ace)

Tim has to roll for 'damage' for being shot down and may have a penalty in the next mission.

Ron has both an intact X-Wing back now as he flew the YT-1300 whilst the X-Wing was repaired.

The next mission is an ambush. The rebels have learned of an Empire courier shuttle being escorted through open space. They are setting up a little suprise for him……..
