The Plot Hooks Thread

By Cilionelle, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

R4-W9 from Trouble Brewing itself makes an excelent plot hook, more specifically the R4 unit has the complete Hyperspace Route for the Kessel Run in his memory banks. The little droid can give it to the PCs as thanks for helping him and actually get to do the Kessel Run, for all the fame, glory, and money it brings.

Ah Blues Bros. Classic.

[Jake and Elwood are flying in the new Jizzmobile]
Jake: What's this?
Elwood: What?
Jake: This ship. This stupid ship. Where's the YT-1300? [tries to use the ship's igniter, but it does not work; he flushes it out of an airlock] The 1300, where's the 1300?
Elwood: The what?
Jake: The YT-1300 we used to have. The Jizzmobile.
Elwood: I traded it.
Jake: You traded the Jizzmobile for this?
Elwood: No, for an audio pickup.
Jake: An audio pickup? Okay, I can see that. But what the hell is this?
Elwood: This was a bargain. I picked it up at the Mount Prospect Station military surplus auction last spring. It's an old Mount Prospect customs cutter. They were practically giving them away.
Jake: Well thank you, pal. The day I get out of prison, my own brother comes to pick me up in a Navy ship.
Elwood: You don't like it?
Jake: No, I don't like it.
[Elwood flies the ship through an asteroid field]
Jake: Ship's got a lot of pickup.
Elwood: It's got a Navy motor, a 440 KTU plant. It's got Navy compensators, Navy thrusters, Navy hyperdrives. It's a model made before catalytic recombiners, so it'll run good on regular fuel. What do you say? Is it the new Jizzmobile or what?
[Jake lights his cigarra using his igniter]
Jake: Fix the cigarra igniter.

"****. What? Rollers. No. Yep. ****"

The PCs are asked by rebel/hutt/blackson/insert criminal contact break a man out of a imperial/CSA prison ship. The PCs can tackle in many ways from a matter of space borne assault, boarding it while in port, sneaking in a matter of ways and getting him out, or straight up blackmail/charisma their way into getting him released. However the Man is actually also on the run from those contacts and has information about (insert treasure/intel here). Adventure awaits!

Also (for a more mature campaign)

On a distant world on the outerrim, a large religious rebel cult (extremists not Rebel alliance) has taken root on a burgeoning factory world, one of their contacts have hired out the PCs to do a simple job like retrieve some info, smuggle some goods, or kill some guy whose making problems. When they return to collect the reward, the contact and some goons try and kill the PCs to cover their tracks. Midway through the battle an explosion rocks the building and causes it to collapse and knocks the PCs out.

When they awake they discover that the entire world is under siege. The CSA or the Empire has had enough of these rebels and have sent a fleet to "pacify" the planet. They were able to land some ground troops before the planetary shield gate activates trapping the forces. The Cult has seized the starports on the planet and conscripted them to fight in the defense, including the PCs ship. Over the course of a month the two sides will do battle both in space (the cult has pirate allies plus their own flotilla plus Golan defense platforms) and on land (the shield will go down), such fighting will decimate the populated parts of the planets and hundreds of thousands of innocents will die in the cross fire. Both sides are quite hostile with the Cult conscripting civilians to build defenses and other bad things while the Invaders are detaining at best all they encounter. The PCs have to navigate the battlefield to find a way off system and maybe pick up (and grow attached) to some refugees as well.

Prepare to put the war in Star Wars.
