Cutro
They were fighting with short swords. Mentor Saur was brandishing the thick, twin-edged cutro he always kept at his side.

The Cutro is a robust double-edged short sword native to the ancient hive city of Queen Mab. It has a straight, triangular blade resembling an oversized spear tip which rises from the sword's hilt, starting at the width of a man's palm and tapering to a dagger-like point. The blade is usually proportioned to roughly the same length as the users forearm. It was designed from the ground up to defeat modern body armour, and is most effective as a stabbing weapon used to deliver close ranged rising thrusts into an opponents body in the same manner as a Calixian Sarrian or the Gladius of ancient Terra. It can also be used to deliver vicious chopping and hacking blows, though the weapon's short length requires the user to be extremely strong to make such blows effective.

Salinter
The stranger was wielding a curved salinter or short sabre, which I presume he had brought with him. It was not a local weapon, not even local to the world. He knew how to use it.
-Pariah, Dan Abnett
A Salinter is a gently curving duellist's weapon. It is believed to have originated among the noble families of Thracian Primaris in the Scarus Sector, but is now commonplace across the entire region. In appearance it resembles a small sabre, though the arc of the sword is somewhat more pronounced than in larger, full scale weapons. The blade is narrow, usually less than two inches, and often much less. As a formal duelling weapon from a civilised world, it is not primarily designed to kill an opponent, but rather to humiliate, incapacitate and scar them. The weapon is made of extremely light, high grade steel, and is wielded with a distinctive "whipping" motion designed to break through an opponent's guard and deliver wide, shallow cuts or slicing, limb-severing blows.

Special: The Salinter is a light, razor sharp blade designed to scar rather than kill, though it is certainly a deadly weapon if necessary. A wielder can, if he chooses, decide to reduce damage inflicted by up to his strength bonus rather than increase it by his strength bonus, in the normal way. This decision is made after damage has been calculated. This represents the wielder "pulling" the blow and inflicting a humiliating scar on the opponent rather than wounding him more severely.
