QuickPlay options

By Spells.dk, in Sid Meier's Civilization: The Board Game

Sometimes i don't have 12 hours to play a full game with 4 players … Or 4 hour to play a 2 player game … What are my options for getting a quick play? Is there any official ways to shorten the game?

Personaly i have a therory that you may be able to start all players off with X amount of this Y ammount og that etc… And in that way skip allot of the early stages …. But it would require that is's equaly good for all players E.g. A player that usualy goes for a cunture victory may be disapointet to get 2 culture and 10 tech. and alsow the other way round …

Another way is to remove some victory conditions .. But then again that limits the hole gameplay idea with multriple victorys … And if you limit victory conditions it may acturaly results in longer gameplay ….

So All: Ideas / Official rules / How we doo it / etc are wellcome :-)

Normaly we play abaut 1 hour per Player.. Our Games with 4 Players need 4-5 Hours to play…

What do you guys do wrong?

You can save a lot of time by planing your Turn while the others are playing… I´m looking for my buildings and technologys before it is my turn…

Yeah 12 hours for a 4-player game does sound very long. I don't even think my 4-plr Twilight Imperium games last that long. One thing that could speed it up, besides the previously mentioned planning ahead, is for everyone to focus on the game. No phones, computors, radios, books, TVs etc.

Also, make sure that everyone has read the rules at least once. Preferrably the FAQ too. Rules explanations and look-ups can eat plenty of minutes.

Okay maby not 12 houers but for us it takes alteast 2 houers per player …. But then again allot of it is probably because we constantly have new players comming and going … And that ofcause increasses playing time ….

But still i would have liked it if it was posible to play a game in like 2-3 houers with 4 player 2 that know the game and 2 new players …. And i don't thing thats posible by just focusing etc… So i would still like to here if someone has ideas as to how you could decrease playng time!

I think, the problem with new players is the complexity in technologies,

and finding a way to win, but I dont know how to short that…

If you have a plan then time spent on your turn can be quick, but since random acts and other strategies need to change on the fly, it can delay it a bit. Playing with a group that already knows what they are doing will speed things up drastically.

New players will be overwhelmed, but that is the nature of the game.

You could tell the new people to log on to FFG and read through the rules and FAQ beforehand. At least once but preferrably more times. It really does save time compared to explaining everything as you go along.
