Sounds like a typical "No comment" reply to me. GW uses replies like this all the time. Basically I think it means that the only way you will find out is by watching the News page.
Next Expansion for Talisman
My immediate thought is Talisman must not generate good enough sales for FFG. It's always about the money, let's not be coy here.
Yes, agreed, it's always about the money, but still, FFG is a company and must take care of their profits. Additionally, their catalogue is pretty huge now (I guess that if we sum up all their titles, among boardgames, RPGs, LCGs, miniature games they have more than 1000 products), so, it's not possible to have regular and frequent releases for all their lines. Some of these lines receive more attention (MoM, Descent, X-Wing and the LCGs above all), some others go at a slow pace, some others go at even a slower pace (what happened to Gears of War, for instance? and Elder Sign fans had to wait two years to see an expansion coming).
As Talismaisland said, the e-mail seems to be quite a standard e-mail. I can see how the true aficionado could not be happy with such an e-mail, but if mailing were enough to have some plans revealed, then for the guys will be an e-mail inferno with everyone asking about the favourite game of the moment.
The boardgame is still in the catalogue, and they are still reprinting it, so I woulnd't be worried for a longer hiatus. Then, I'd say, with such an important anniversary coming at the horizon, maybe some news will come as well. Don't know, but it seems to me a good marketing option. But even in case this won't happen, I still wouldn't be worried too much.
Edited by JuliaWhat about the fact that John
Goodenough has moved on? Wasn't he the main designer of Talisman?
If you take a look at the number of replies in the forum for each boardgames, Talisman is their 2nd most popular after Arkham Horror. In terms of sales ranking Talisman must be around the same place.
Thank you for the positive feedback. I did not think Talisman was as poplular as some of the other games because I so seldom see anything new being sold. I do follow Talisman Island and am aware of the copious amounts of countries that participate in the realm of Talisman. Again, thank you for the uplifting news. Talisman has been my favorite game since it's conception. Looking forward to anything new that comes out.
My wife has been killing me recently about the new Talisman expansion. I mean - we've got everything that's been published to date, but you know. The 4th corner is missing, there's time for a smaller card expansion pack, also there's this fate token stuff not sorted out yet (Two sides there are mhhhmphm, choose wisely you must mhhmm). So much things to add and I'd love the kind of treatment that Arkham Horror received in a form of Miskatonic Horror, which added a little bit of card diversity to previous expansions, a huge pack of cards.
Shut up and take my money FFG, and since you're already quiet on the Talisman front, just open your wallet and give me more expansions

I'll have what this gentleman is having... PLEASE!
How about a small expanison focused on the mythical "Discard pile"? It seems to be a lot going on there. Maybe some gigantic garbage golem grow in power depending on what is added, monsters and items are thrown back into the world, and possible to enter it to salvage lost treasures =D
I know I am in the minority, but I do not want more boards, unless its something very different. For example: Timescape. (and yeah I may want Relic in the future but not gonna modify it for Talisman)
I enjoy City (its different) and Dungeon.
I do not own Highlands, and don't want it, makes the game too big!
I enjoy most of the small expansions. Tho I do not like Blood Moon. But I did like Reaper, and like it a lot!
I have played all expansions, tho I do not own all.
I don't think Timescape will fly with most fans, but i could see/favor it if it might be yet another alternate 'inlay' for the Inner Region, because seriously, where else would it go, unless you all play on the floor - - or a ping pong table (hmmmmmm...)
At any rate, I echo the need/desire for "something different", but could see different ways to solve the dichotomy with those who want the Forest because the 3rd or some previous edition had it.
Please note that 'spaces' on the Main set board include 'hills' which are used on at least one other board.
So this could be the fate of 'woods' or 'forests' since they are SPACEs on the main board too.
"The Forgotten Realm" (or the Hidden Realm) or... whatever.
But it has woods spaces with the same properties as the main board and for any other characters who can make advantage of them. Perhaps other 'spaces' from the Main or other boards can be used for similar or new effects as well?
Some characters can teleport or move quicker to these similar spaces, but there could be other effects too.
A new graveyard-type space, The Ancient Cemetary, which when a certain roll happens, "would draw all face-up Spirits" to that space (there's a card like that, but we could come up with a twist of some sort)
I envision another tributary or stream of the River, but maybe its not a perfect square around, maybe it goes diagonally through that board and represents another mode of travel (with it's limitations or perils) for players
The Boss would be the Lich-form of the Ancient Wizard who seems to have caused all this and maybe other features could tie some elements together better (DRAGONs?).
Beyond the board I've thought about other elements, such as creating neutral or sorta helpful NPCs, like "the Queen" who needs safe passage to the Castle, or other court rivals who can either monkey up the works or give advantages.
But some players don't want that. The Fate/Dark/Light thing is something on many minds too. I see it being an opportunity to bring in Chaos/Order Elements, rather than the good-evil-neutral spectrum.
Hi friends!
Don't know if it has already been suggested but how would you feel if the new corner was dichotomized into two different realms? One having entrance at the woods and being the classic forest of the previous editions, while the other half of the board being "undeadly" themed with an entrance at the graveyard! Maybe even with a connection between the two halves (a common final boss for example like a dark castle at the heart of the forest you may reach from both sides).
I repeat my excuses in case it has already been brought up.
I see many nice possibilities with this setup plus it will have the feeling of a novelty, of something different going on in the game.
So.. what do you think?
I always do my part. I get two everytime something comes out.
I will be happy to see anything Timespace related. Or at least rename all the old Timescape cards to something more fantasy, and release the new-old Timescape again.
Others have suggested a reinvention of Timescape along these lines. Like a portal to various dimensional realms; some demonic, etc. Although I liked Timescape myself, I think we really are outnumbered on this and its probably not on the ffg radar at all, not that anything else is right now.
But I know that a concept of dimensional realms with various differences between them could be played into Talisman.
Hi Everyone!
I would like to see 3 more big expansions. Of course, next expansion should be the Forest, then the Sea and the Swamp.
The Sea board should be located between City and Dungeon boards and we would start this expansion from Plants. The Swamp board should be located between Highlands and Forest and we would start this expansion from Woods.
Also, I would like to see characters such as Barbarian, Goblin, Pilgrim, Ranger, Satyr, Centaur, Orc, Woodsman, Mystic (available in Talisman 1st edition) and Cyclops/Giant (available in Polish version of Talisman: Magiczny Miecz)
One small expansion can introduces Yeti on the same ruels as Raper and Werewolf but this time Yeti can be a positive character
In my opinion, Timespace isn't good idea because it's doesn't have ambiance of Talisman
Edited by SorinHello,
Can you explain what you mean by " ambiance" of Talisman? Do you mean something like the "theme". Talisman is fantasy and Timescape seems to science fiction for many people.
Yes, I think if future expansions might come out, they should be "boardlets", as you mention the Swamp and the Sea.
In the Sea "boardlet" you just need an ocean and a set of cards for each space. Perhaps there is an Island in the middle with a boss and a treasure.
By my sorta-calculations, there could be 9 spaces in a "board-let". In one of my first similar ideas, I thought of a Desert board-let, for that area between the City and the Dungeon. The difference was you had to enter it through the Middle Region's Oasis space.
Timescape never had the ambience. But it still was awesome! SciFi and fantasy are completely different genres/personality, but they can be mixed.

Like the Might and Magic series. Who wants the Forge?
One of the doubts, of new small expansions is they generally add to the rather large Adventure deck. There is currently a thread where people are discussing ways to limit/rearrange the Adventure deck so as not to be so large, or dis-inclusive of other expansions.
But I'll always play with all the expansions so I view the problem differently. I think it would be more interesting to find ways to pull, encounter or cycle through the large deck.
One of the ways to do this would be the use of the 'boardlets' idea, that is creating a mini-board that fits between Dungeon/City on the one side, and Highlands/*Whatever* on the other.
The difference being that these two areas would not be considered separate or new regions, but an extension of the main Talisman board. Most likely extensions of the Outer region, since the spaces would be adjacent.
Since you would want this new expansion to not rely on other expansions, they would be actual extensions of the Outer region. They would not be backdoor or adjacent in any way to the other regions; entry to those other regions would remain the same.
So, with about 9 spaces for each boardlet, the idea would be to have some unique spots where maybe more than 1 card could be drawn. Perhaps there could be a 'Rune' space, like the ones on the Middle level, which operate the same.
A space or two for the much-asked for Swamp, Cave or other special instruction space would be nice.
Should each 'boardlet' be somewhat unique, or should 1 be "real" unique? Like the one on the side near the Graveyard could be a whole expansion on that, I suppose.
But the main idea would be a *small* expansion that creates an extension of the main board, doesn't require any other sets for compatibility, possibly has several or more new characters, likewise new/old alt. endings
Would this be the price and bother of a new small expansion (without adding / unduly to the Adventure draw pile!).
I think the next (and last) big-box expansion will be the Forest, simply because Fantasy Flight seem to be expanding the game exactly according to the third edition of Talisman. They have 4/4 so far (Dungeon, Highlands, Dragon, City) so Forest seems almost guaranteed.
I like that they used the base game (and rules) from the more popular second edition and yet expanded using the cleanness of the "four corners plus center" third edition.

While I find the idea interesting, having something between the corner expansions would take up even more space on this already large game. I have a HUGE table that I designed with Talisman in mind. It has enough room for all four corner expansions, and has room on all sides to allow up to six players to have room for their stuff. I still use the space between the expansions for the expansion decks, because it's less cluttered and the decks are easier for people to reach.

My Table can only fit 2 expansions, its good I don't like Highlands!
Even if they made the last corner I would still want more areas to explore. The Highlands becomes a volcano, the city a necropolis , and dungeon a another dimension. Let the players choose which to use and which to leave out.

Many completests would hate you, but you are right!
The next exspansion would be cool if it was similar to the Timescape exspasion of the old version.
