Alchemist in the magic Emporium

By Gigg, in Talisman Rules Questions

Question about the following:

  1. Go to magic shop in city.
  2. Buy scroll for one gold.
  3. Alchemist magic object for three gold.
  4. Repeat until you have all the gold and two rings and two spell books.

Limit of thirty gold normally, but with city revealed ending its infinite gold.

Either way, just send the alchemist to magic shop and its heal all life, fate, spells, full gold, gain spell at start of turn, plus two craft and strength, and attack in psychic combat. Totally dominant.

Is thier any rules or eratta that would stop the above from happening?

Did you send this as a question to FFG or are you asking the forums for advice? If latter, why make a new thread instead of adding to the existing thread(s) about this desconfiado ?

It was discused here: http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_foros_discusion.asp?efid=129&efcid=1&efidt=781715

After he buy items and alchemise them his turn ends and he has to make another round.
Of course it is a great combo but (like in chess) it determine other players to watch Alchemist carefully and do not allow him to grow up too quickly. He's got starting strenght value only 2 and it is easy to catch him in a shop space and win a battle to take items which he buy… According to the rules at the beginning you choose character from 3 cards. If someone take Alchemist you must take strenght oriented character and try to stop him. Of course you can always try to use Reaper… I think using Dragon exp also can slow Alchemist. If he encounter Magic Emporium many times there quickly appear Dragon scale and it can slow him down a little bit. Then you must try to catch CoC first. This requires strategy (and luck) since the beginning of the game but the victory will be much more worthy.

A fix would be you can only buy one item at a time (one per visit) in the City shops. Either that or say objects from the magic shop can not be alchemised… But as for the rules.. No there is nothing stoping this as is…

I would say you can't buy more items than what's in stock. So if there are three scrolls in the shopping deck, you can only shop three scrolls at a time.

Thanks for the feedback. i missed the discuession in the Taxation Thread.

If not the Scroll Alchemist can buy potions in Apothecary. Maybe ale the t rinkets shouln't be able to alchemise? There are small objects so you can carry them without any limit but there are too small to make a gold from them…

Except Trinkets were initially introduced in the Highlands expansion, that also had the Alchemist and no mention of that combo being not allowed in there.
