Imperial navy/inquisitorial space ship fluff and floorplans

By snufkin2, in Dark Heresy

Hello everyone. I'm just on the hunt for space ship floorplans, background etc as I am planning on using one such craft as the base for my players inbetween missions. Do any of you know of any great online resources i could use?

Does battlefleet gothic come with any nice little useful blueprints i could use in my game?

That would be useful, especially if you plan on the ship getting borded anytime.

There are some floor plans for a Cobra-class somewhere out there, I think perhaps on Dark Reign, but darned if I can find it. The Anargo Sector Project has a sub-project dealing with producing detailed deck plans and otherwise exploring a ship of the 40k universe, but the Venturer is in early stages at the moment.

Beyond that you're going to have to look to some sci-fi games that do detail this kind of thing.

The only site that I have found that has anything close to what you are asking for is... Ordo Malleus They have lots of useful things throughout that site as well, if you take the time to look. For what you are looking for, look especially in the blueprints section.

Thanks Kage and NsaneDragn. I actually found the ordo malleus site ages ago and forgot what it was called. Anargo sector project website looks interesting. If i give up trying to scrounge floorplans from the net then i'll probably draw my own, and if they turn out ok then i'll upload them here.

Battlefleet Gothic doesn't. Space Hulk does. Kinda...

Given the sheer size of 40k starships, it's pretty impractical to draw up a floor plan (even a Cobra Destroyer, the smallest ship in the published Imperial Fleet is over half a kilometer in length). At most you'll only need a few locations mapped.

In my case the mapping is not the problem, knowing the names of the different parts of a starships anatomy on the other hand can somtimes be tricky. WHat does a starship have generally? The things that just spring to mind are: holds, gun-decks, bridge, navigator-spire, engine-halls, armoured prow, spine-promenade, crews-quarters, officers-quarters and captains quarters as far as I can come up with from the few details i know from naval ships and a few terms I've read from WH40K litterature. But then I usually remember that we are talking about STARSHIPS (practically artificial cities who must be able to last in the void for years some times). And suddenly the few aspects I can come up with just doesn't seem to be enough to cover the entirety of a larger vessel. : /

If it is helpfull, the DH-official possible sizes for a Black Ship can be found here:

No floorplans, but it helps to get a feel...

Yes, the black ship map was certainly useful to get a feel for the size. But to me it just left me with more questions to be honest. If you look at the map you see that it only details the holds of the ship (and they seem to be a prety miniscule part of the ships entire size). It would be nice to have a map that described other parts of the ship too, and not just only the holds. However I cant say that I need a detailed map of every little nook and cranny of any given starship, im just saying it would be nice to know for instance where the bridge is located in comparison to the holds, and how many areas a person would have to go through to reach a particluar place from their current location within the ship. Because right now my gaming group are running totally on abstracts. : /

I could draw up a map for myself of course, but i get the feeling that the end result would be somewhat illogical, and that i need a little more knowledge in the area of warshipdesign before trying my hand at it. One could probably take inspiration from floorplans of a Nimitz-class carrier or something, but I get the feeling that such information is classified by the US navy...

Yeah a brief overview would be nice. For my ship though i had in mind something a little smaller! happy.gif I was originally going to have a small section of a larger ship devoted to my acolytes, and have the rest of the ship off limits to them. then i thought maybe i could just make a plan for a smaller ship. The only drawback to this i can think of is whether my ship would realistically fit a warp engine in it. How big are warp engines anyway!? can you get really small ones? (sits waiting patiently for rogue trader).

Thanks for the tip off gregorius. I've actually got the map already in purge the unclean, but you reminded me about it, cheers! Thats a hell of a lot of pdfs to look through, thanks super germ! That's brilliant, i didn't realise they had it all up on their website for free.

I think i should email Forge World and ask them to make a life-size emperor class battleship :P
