Legacy Weapon Abilities Shattering Question?

By Kain McDogal, in Black Crusade Rules Questions

I've got some issues with the description of Shattering Legacy Weapon Ability.

Does it grant the Power Field Weapon Quality including the resilience against other weapons with the Power Field Quality, or does it only give the Legacy Weapon a 75% Chance of destroying parried weapons?

Interesting question. Since it says the weapon "strike with the Power Field Quality", I'd say it isn't affected by other power fields while attacking.

Then again, I'm of the opinion that Legacy Weapons shouldn't be affected by power fields, period. The point of the Legacy Weapon rule is that it allows a character to keep a relatively low-powered weapon effective in higher tiers of play rather than switching it out with something else at the first opportunity. Immunity to power fields is a key feature to this. The first epic reforging quest may be interesting - the twenty-second considerably less so.

I think they just tried to be cutesy with "gains the Power Field quality".

I'd toss in a free +2pen or something to back it up if the weapon lacked the quality, personally, since either the "lower chance of weapon loss to 10%" is lost to a proportionally minor upgrade, or its worth that much to the player but is a protection the weapon should have gained in the first place. Besides, weapons without the field on usually lose quite a bit from their stats, and in this case the ability was granting none.

Indeed, sometimes game designers misjudge themselves for some kind of novelist. They should leave ornate language for the fluff.

Crunch should be crunch = hard numbers and established expressions!

Treat it as "gains the Power Field quality". If the weapon's got it already, reroll.
