Has anyone found any landscape or sattelite images of forests , thundra, deserts to use as a game map? Rogue Squadron comics portrait a variety of dogfights in different enviroments. It would be cool to change a little, maybe include playdoh mountains with fake grass as obstacles. Anyone?

You can use what ever type of mat suits you, as far as terrain goes, you could use model railroad scenery (mountains, etc)

It'd be a little work, but it's certainly a cool idea!

Google Maps or Bing could be a good source of images. It's not going to be like crystal clear or whatever, but your ships probably aren't flying 50' off the ground or whatever anyway. Take as big of a screenshot as you possibly can, print it out large format stylee, see how it turns out.

You know what might be really cool? Grand Canyon. Build up some walls with foam and stuff, make it deep enough so that it effectively blocks line of sight and hides ships entirely. Think like some of those old GW multi-level dwarven hold boards they'd break out at Games Days and stuff. Could be interesting…

The other day I was goofing off with a small resin cast bunker, thinking about a Yavin Temple map.

Crimson Skies was an old MICROSOFT / FASA / WIZKIDS product and people made cloud banks, radio towers, Zeppelins (think blockade runner for size) and other crazy goodness to fly around. Mostly treat stuff just like asteroids, except that some items might completely block Line of Sight or be more or less dangerous when hit.

Battlefleet Gothic was another great game with some good space junk for terrain. I'm using my old asteroids from Gothic to 3D stuff now. Just sit the 3D asteroid on the cardboard template, and pick it up if the action gets too close to it.
