By far the Eastern Front is my favorite front of WWII and was curious anyone heard any scuttlebutt about them doing an expansion for the Eastern Front? TIA
Eastern Front?
back when TOI first came out they said they had plans for an eastern front expansion
And that makes me a very happy gamer! Thanks Derros!
your welcome
ive got my eyes set on normandy for now but an eastern front expansion will be very fun
The Eastern Front expansion is the one I would be most excited about.
Oh yeah.
Entire boards of city scape would be awesome, perhaps rules for moving around in tunnels under the city would be very interesting...but most likely it will just be a strategy card for hidden units.
Katyusha rocket launchers!
)
And a campaign structure where battles are tied to one another ...
yea thats one of the many things i like about the normandy expansion
so far I only experienced the Days of the fox-Expansion and I must say....I am completely disappointed.
Especially the unrealistic map tiles with too many houses, dunes, etc. and the rules for AT-Guns lacking depth do not satisfy me. All in all I must say that Dotf feels just like the basic game in sandbrown. The additional strategy card decks and specialization tokens only blow up the game without adding depth.
Thus I am somewhat reluctant concerning further expansions, especially an eastern front expansion. I am somewhat worried about implementing the old cliches: All russian soldiers were poorly equipped, trained, motivated and only attacked in gigantic numbers. Oh yeah, and of course they were always forced into combat by a comissar with machine gun. Oh and by the way: You can already simulate city engagements with the basic box. There are enough building pieces to form an entire city; which is by the way done very well in many scenarios like Pavlovs House).
Nevertheless I am looking forward for the next expansion
IMHO i think the days of the fox expansion was very well done

I have to agree with you. It's a very good expansion.
I would have to agree, too. The scenarios for DotF seem to have had much more in the way of playtesting. I like it more than the base game, but then I'm British...
Eastern Front would be on the top of my list too, so bring it on. Until then I can't wait to play Normandy and I think the campaign idea is fantastic. As for DotF I was a little diappointed in it
Everybody fully satisfied? Nothing to citizise?
Come on, the rules for AT-Guns are funny but by no means done very well.
Apu based on my reading the russians where not poorly equipped at all. Thier training compared to ours, the Brits and Germans is lesser but not substandard. And they where quite willing to attack . as an example in a book i'm reading a russian commander of a mech birgade complains that his kv-1's and 122mm and 152mm howiter''s have no ammo this is in mid june 1941, he also complains that by just reciving his kv-1's right before the Germans attack that none of his tank drivers are trained well enough to drive the tank. this is in an after action report filed in july of 1941.

Watercooled MG's from WWI? Rifles less acurate than the germans? shortage of radios? Russian infantry were indeed at a disadvantage.
Cool tanks though ;-)
For city battles we realy need a revamped assault rules section!

Something like : " Unit must stop upon entering a building hex and may not attack? "
BTW, I think sth like this can be easily solved by a (new) operations card. ( Hidden/ concealed units would help too!)
hefsgaard yes certianly the infantry weapons are 2nd rate in some cases but the ppsh-41 sub machine gun is not. and the tanks are amazing in many cases. the t-34 and kv-1 are well ahead of anybody's designs. and i love the fact that the bt-7 could remove it's tracks to faciliate faster movement on the few paved roads. Plus unlike the Germans the Soviet Tanks are winter ready

I can also recommend Stalingrad by Antony Beevor. Besides the very good account of the battle itself, it also illustrates the learning curve of the Red Army and the lack thereof of the Wehrmacht at that time.
I'll chime in here as well.
"Enemy at the Gates"
by
William Craig
(Ah relax, you knew someone had to recomend this book
) was a **** good read, as far as I'm concerned.
As far as having second rate infantry weapons goes, if I remember this right, quite a few of the US forces that went ashore at Guadalcanal were short of having M1 Garand rifles, and were still using Springfield bolt action rifles (a fine rifle to be sure, especially for sniping). There were many other "equipment shartages" as well which caused this operation to be dubbed "Operation Shoestring" by many. If you want another good read, try "The Batlle For Guadalcanal" by Samual B. Griffith II Brigadier General, USMC (RET.).
war without garlands by robert kershaw is a very detailed, interesting and extremely harrowing book dealing with operation barbarossa from inception to utter failure and the triumph of the red army
and "come and see" has to be the best war film ive seen. brutal and unflinching
