Magister Illyrio & Xaro's Home

By snowfrost, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Magister Illyrio's: "You may play attachments from opponents' discard piles as if they were in your hand."

Xaro's Home: Response: After you play an attachment from your hand, kneel 1 influence to draw a card.

I play attachments from opponents' discard piles, can i trigge Xaro's Home to draw a card?

I think I can't,because "as if in your hand" ≠ "in your hand",am I right?

thanks

I'd say no, the wording is 'as if they were in your hand', so it's just saying you can play it (using the gold cost).

If attachment cards in peoples discard piles counted as being in your hand then you could technically discard them as part of an intrigue challenge.

It has been ruled in the past that playing cards from other OOP areas "as if they were in your hand" or similar (e.g. with Crawn, Son of Calor or KotS Robert Baratheon ) count as being "played from and" when it comes to play restrictions. That means they do count against the limit imposed by Fear of Winter , and you can trigger "after X is played from hand" responses off of them, like Xaro's Home.

See for example this thread .

Besides, it seems to me that "play a card" and "play a card from hand" are completely synonymous anyway.
