-= Question over the DH Core book, FFG Staff, please respond? =-

By Stormweaver, in Dark Heresy

Just a quick question, we have 2 copies of the DH Core book as well as 1 copy of the Inquisitor's Handbook, all three of which have this odd bowing in the cover on both sides as if some heavy weight were applied from the side of the book, according to the Vegas gaming store they were got from, (my best friend picked them up while on a in country TDY to Vegas) all of their books for DH have arrived that way, and there is little they could do. We've tried leaving the books under or between a stack of other RPGs in order to attempt to press it out, only to have the cover of one of them start to split in the middle of the bow.

Is this a known issue, in which case, could you point me in the direction of policy to follow to get through the issue, or is this something that you've not heard about before, in which case, what does FFG recommend? Being bowed does seem to submit the covers and the pages to more chances for damage as you can't place the books in with other books without risking splitting the cover.
Thanks for your attention to this matter.

Thought for the day:
It is not ours to question why we serve the Emperor, but to question how best to and most efficiently serve him.

Hi Stormweaver;

I'm not from FFG, but having been in the industry some time, I've seen this phenomenon many times before.

Bowed covers in hardbacks typically mean that either some moisture got into the shipment or that the glue for the cover was not completely dry before pressure was removed.

This can generally by "solved" by placing the book under a stack of other books in a dry area so long as it is done relatively soon. The older the book, tha harder it will be to correct.

Hope that helps!

Schoon is correct. That will work most of the time.

However, if the bowing is severe, generally in a situation like this, we would ask that you return them to the shop from which you bought them for a replacement. The shop can easily return them to their distributor for replacement copies, and the distributor will return them to us.

I'll have to see if he is being deployed back to Vegas sometime soon or not. If not, we'll just deal as best we can.. We tried the heavy book method and it looks like the strain in the bow is trying to break the cover on his core book, mine so far just seems to have no effect. And we've not tried on his Inqu HB yet.

Thank you for the answers, we'll see how things go.

Worst case, I may see if we can't just get copies in from FFG directly as our local "gaming stores" while having product do not do much to help the gamer community, rather supporting other groups they sell merchandise to. They aren't real gaming stores in the first place sadly. However there is the Green Dragon in Charleston... a bit of a ride but may be worth it if they have the stuff in.

Thank you again!

@Stormweaver

You mentioned the Green Dragon in Charleston. Is your group located in South Carolina?

If you can't get replacement copies of the books and you can't get the warping out, something else you can try if your feeling a bit handy can be found HERE

Yes, we're in Sumter, about 10 Mins from Shaw AFB. : )

And I've bookmarked the rebinding method, he and I both feel we would have fun with such a project, but may wait to see what time holds for the current cover. Maybe we'll get lucky with straighting it out.

Thanks again for the replies gang, I don't mind the chatter at all!

It seems the Inquisition has a few acolytes in SC (Aiken here).

Placing the books under heavy objects is about the only thing you can do for something of that nature, hopefully our wonderful weather lately can help out with the warping gui%C3%B1o.gif

Our group is based in Columbia. If either of you know anyone interested up our way we could use an extra player or two in our weekly Sunday campaign.

Its good to know that in these Darkened times, we are not alone! : )

I've actually been thinking about trying to get a group together for DH outside of my normal group, but I've not taken any steps forward yet. I'll have to plug in the info to the member search and see who all pops up as being in SC.
