Dunwich, and some Unseen Forces, had arrived…

By Julia, in Elder Sign

Want to see more examples of 'master mythos' cards, and a unique and/or common item that does something different besides adding dice and spells that do something else besides locking dice .

FTFY.

Also I would like something like in the ES:Omens that every GOO has kinda his own set of monsters, like Yig has serpents adding doom tokens, or Tsathoggua has many dice locking monsters and formless spawns, though I know that chance seeing it happen is nigh impossible.

I think Yig's unique power in the tt version sorta does this already- killing regular cultists removes an Elder Sign, if memory serves. The Omens version simplified that function, to make it more obvious what killing a cultist would do. IMHO, that's the key to beating Yig in Omens- avoid killing monsters and cultists that add doom, unless you have a spell or unique item to do it with. I think I've played Yig in Omens 120 times, and I've only lost to him twice (and one of those was on purpose, because I wanted to see if there was a unique cutscene when he eats you).

I agree that it would be cool to have unique monsters for each GOO. I'm betting that there are some in Unforseen Forces- those green guys with the teeth look like Child of Aboth(s) to me, and they have a unique reddish color to their border.

Maybe at least giving some or all monsters unique abilities depending on the GOO in game would suffice, like in AH - the cultists (and maniac for Azathoth, IIRC) were given GOO-dependent bonuses. Technically Shub-Niggurath (+1 terror result to defeat any monster) and Yig (removing elder signs) do it already, but more flavour for the others would be nice to have.

Hey, so, what do you guys think the odds are of there being a new location in this expansion, like the Bermuda Triangle or whatever it is in the Ipad expansion? I was thinking about it and it seems to me like 40 adventure cards is an awful lot for just a museum. I know at least some of them will be still in the museum since they previewed the Chapel, but think about it. How many cards are in the original adventure deck? 60? Are there really enough locations in a museum to make that many more cards for without getting into minutia (the first stall of the lavatory, the shadowy corner of the Egyptian exhibit!)? I'm really curious to know, because if there ARE only new museum cards, that place is going to get pretty dang huge!

I'd bet If there were new locations like in Omens it would have been mentioned in the initial announcement. That's too big a change to not promote right off the bat. I know there are some museum adventures that name specific locations, but I think of the museum as having 6 general areas where you can have about 90 different adventures (with the expansion). I can see future expansions moving to other locations (Miskatonic U seems a logical choice), but, really, the museum adventures are unlimited- the more you have (as long as they vary enough), the more each game feels unique and unpredictable. Replayability!

I wonder if when they do a second expansion it will make use of heralds, guardians, and institutions. That would be pretty cool.

Also could see potential for epic monster battles and a dark pharoah theme.

I've looked at those on the AH wiki (my friend owns only the basic AH game) and they look really interesting. However, I am a bit afraid if the game wouldn't become too cluttered the same as I am afraid about the AH being too cumbersome with all those expansions. Granted, AH is a heavier game, but ES is a quickie and quite simple, so I am not sure if I would like those changes. Maybe if they were only in forms of extra passive bonuses/penalties, it would be fine.

Yes sir, you hit the spot. Same desired, wishes, dreams, here.

The point is that all the Heralds, Guardians and other things are modular (it's the same in Arkham) and are a good way to adjust difficulty to your playstyle. If you don't want to use a Herald, you can simply leave it in the box and use the other cards of the expansion. I think the point is adding some variety so that you can suit the game to your needs

Oh, I see. I'm fine with it, then.

I can't wait to try the blessed dice, well and the cursed for that matter. The new cards for the mythos deck look like they will be fun. My biggest hope is that this will make the game harder. My game group has had a lot of easy encounters with elder sign.

Can't wait for the expansion! I was worried that the game would have no expansion. Not only do expansions give more variety, it renews interest in the base game and I'm hoping the expansion will add renewed interest in my group.

I'm probably not adding anything to this thread but….

I NEED this expansion in my blood. Now.

And I haven't even been waiting as long as some of you. I bought Elder Sign: Omens on a whim (knowing only that FFG stood for quality) and then went all in by picking up the board game last month.

Wow….

I haven't been this addicted to anything in a long while (and I play a lot of video games). When I heard about 'Unseen Forces' coming out so soon, I was thrilled. This game needs to be harder. I DID have one epic game with this couple I know and it mimicked a digital session perfectly (Doom Track close to full, 6 Elder Signs short of winning, low on resources, low on morale) but we won in the end (with pumping, swelling music playing in the background before the last die was thrown).

Why did I tell you that story? It's because I'm hoping Unseen Forces makes future sessions of Elder Sign THAT epic.

I'm really really hoping this expansion comes out this year (May, in time for my birthday? Pretty please FFG?)

Thanks for listening to me ramble. I'm new to the forums!

I must say, I am more and more eager to put my hands on this expansion. I am really digging the new ancient one, Abhoth with his crazy children mechanic. If the other ancient ones will have similarly unique rules, I think we are in for a treat.

Well, Tsathoggua's is obviously just going to be closing Entrance locations. And having used zoom/enhance computertron powers, I've been able to make out Glaaki's ability: When an Investigator is devoured, add 3 Doom tokens instead of 1. Interestingly, it makes no mention of Servants of Glaaki monsters. Odd, since they made Abhoth's spawn you'd think they'd give Glaaki his as well. And Shudde M'ell is something long that involves discarding cards from the Adventure deck and placing them beneath the Adventure cards in play. I'm particularly eager to see that one; the additional time pressure added from the Rubble mechanic could really add tension to the game.

I think your zoom is broken or something burla . You can only see the first line of Tsathoggua's text, but it reads: "All trophy costs at the entrance…"

Unless the end is "cannot be paid", seems more likely costs are upped instead.

I actually didn't bother looking at Tsathoggua's since I didn't see why they'd change it from the ipad Omens version. And I still wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't something like "cannot be paid" honestly. I guess I'll say it's obviously going to be something relatively boring that futzes with lobby effects (you know, those things that are super useful and get used all the time >_>)

Don't know about Omens Tsat, but even AH Tsat didn't prevent healing or shopping, just ancillary stuff like Deputy and Blessings (via location text).

Omens Tsathoggua doubles all the entrance costs, Dam.
