Win an AP - Guess Summons of the Deep III

By johnny shoes, in CoC General Discussion

Contest: best guess AP IX wins an Asylum Pack -

Antediluvian Dreams is the ninth asylum pack. It will feature the combat struggle. Post here your wildest and most creative guesses of what it will hold. Accuracy counts. General foresight counts. So does irony. Effort keeping the thread alive helps. Less informed early answers will weigh against answers posted after spoilers and discussion. So post often and alter your answers.

Winner will receive an unopened asylum pack to be named. Once AP 9 is released and is generally available. I will announce the winner. We'll sign up to email an address and I will mail world wide. So go ahead. All participants welcome. Artifact stealing mi-go, gugs and zoogs too.

May the best cultist win!

May the best cultist win!

You already said it. My guess is either a badass cultist, i mean a real man and not those 1 cost 1 skill 1 icon culitsts you find these days shambling all around, or lots of decksearching, handrevealing, deckrevealing cards.

My guess:

Stabby pointy weapon (support)

Attachment. Weapon.

Disrupt (so you can screw opponent's math YAY!): if you win a combat struggle, sacrifice this and pay an inordinate amount to wound a character.

Flavour text: I totally stabbed Cthulhu IN TEH FACE!

Conspiracies DO NOT SUCK! (conspiracy)

Players cannot win unless they have conspiracies in their deck.

Government Feathery Watcher.... never mind, that was Government Exorcist.

I'd Say :

* Black wood hospital :

Cost 1,Location

Pay 1 to remove a wound from a character that is unique ??

* HAstur will give you a slap !

Cost 2, Event

Disrupt, instead of considering the C icons to resolve a Combat struggle , take the T icons.

Blinded by Muzzle Flash.

Event

Cost 1

Action: Skip the terror struggle, and add an additional combat stuggle this story phase to the story of your choice. All weapon attachments currently attached to characters assigned to this story are discarded at the end of the story phase.

Blam, Blam, Blam Click, Click, Click...is it dead?

Attachment: Flamethrower

Cost 3, neutral

Character gains (Skull X 6)

If character with flamethrower is wounded or destroyed while committed to a story, all friendly characters currently committed to that story suffer an additional wound.

Got another idea:

Attachment: Slippery Hands, Cost 1, Hastur

Attached character loses all attached items, besides Slippery Hands, and cannot gain any other attachments.

Oops, I think I´ve dropped it!

So far i think the Flamethrower is the best.

A tough cultist would be nice. Seventy-eight cultists. Syndicate Resurrected Foe is the only cost five. Nine cultists cost four - classic AE Yellow Muse, Pickman, and Pulp Writer included. Cost three highlights are classic AE High Priest of Hastur, Hermetic Scholar, and Starry Wisdom Deacon. Thirty-three cultists cost 2. Victoria, Omar, Repairer of Reputations are my top three. The thirteen that cost 1 are forgettable game fodder, except maybe (from new Ancient Horrors AP) Aspiring Artist. Servant From Out of Time, the only cost 0 cultist, is one of the games coolest cards.

So, yeah, a cultist that matches up with some of them would be nice. Maybe a low cost unique cultist. Anyway, the guesses are coming in. And they're awesome! Thanks for playing. Reminds me of the old MU contest. Keep the ideas coming.

Amok, Hastur, Cost 2, Event

Madness

Disrupt: After you´ve lost a combat struggle, sacrifice one of your commited characters to win this comabt struggle.

I will kill you all!

"Gang Fights", Syndicate cost 1 support:

Forced Response: After a combat struggle has been resolved, resolve an additional combat struggle at that story if there are committed characters controlled by both players at that story.

----------

"Tickets to Tonight's Boxing Match", MU cost 3 event, steadfast MU MU (Maybe steadfast Agency, though it might be too restrictive):

Play during your operations phase. Draw a card for each combat icon characters you control have.

----------

"Malicious Woods", Shub cost 3 support:

Location.

Response: After a character any player controls is put into a discard pile, pay 1 to return that character to its owner's hand.

Action: Pay 2 to have Malicious Woods become a Dark Young character with TC and 2 skill until the end of the phase.

----------

"Triumph!", Agency cost 1 event:

Response: After you win a combat struggle by at least 4 icons, put 4 success tokens on that story.

----------

"Weapons Instructor", Agency cost 2 character:

C

3 skill

Government.

If a character your opponent controls would be wounded, its controller must sacrifice that character instead.

----------

"Shattered By Grief", Hastur cost 2 Event, steadfast HA HA:

Madness.

Disrupt: cancel a triggered effect.

Response: After a character you control is put into the discard pile from play, you may return Shattered by Grief from your discard pile to your hand.

---------

Oh one more:

----------

"I Declare War", Neutral X cost event:

Play during your operations phase.

Action: Each player reveals the top X cards of their deck, then puts into play all characters revealed with at least 1 combat icon.

"No more talk!"

----------

Secret Cultist Instructor

Neutral, Cost 4, 3 Combat

Secret Cultist Instructor gives your cultists 1 additional comabt icon and reduces the cost to play cultists by 1. If at any time your opponent controls more cultists than you, he takes control of Secret Cultist Instructor and all effects apply to his cultists now.

I thought he is on our side?

Eight Asylum Packs and 160 cards and we have not seen an: Artifact, Avatar of Nyarlathotep, Benefactor, Dark Young, Day, Encounter, Environment, Lost City, Mask, Messenger, Mi-Go, Mutable, Night, Ritual, Twilight, or Weapon card. Interesting to consider which are most and least likely to appear.

The eight AP were the beginning for: Artist, Conspirator, Creature, Faculty, Musician, Polar, and Research cards.

Agency

2 * John S. Cordovan

Infamous Busybody and Do-Gooder

Thanks for sharing!

That pack looks actually pretty good, I'm sure a lot of these cards will see play in the League. And what's more, there are (at least) three cards I think might be good even in mixed border environment:

Repo Man is good support destruction for a faction that doesn't have a lot of it. Being a character means he can die easily but nevermind, one go at the stories and it probably has always worked as a better Burrowing Beneath.

Infernal Obsession is also a great card, working as removal for Hastur, even though it is quite costly. Imagine playing this on a Ghoul Khanum. :)

Eat the Dead seems nice as well, attach it and play Nodens or Small Price to Pay turn 1... I don't know if it's that good, but interesting nevertheless.

Overall this is better than the last pack.

Thanks and great job to all who played! Honorable mention goes to Carioz for both his cards. Conspiracies DO NOT SUCK! looked just ridiculous at first and then came pretty close in evaluation and similarity in sweeping board effect. Likewise, his Stabby Pointy Weapon , at first too general and goofy, actually sounds a lot like Secret Stiletto, the sharpest knife in the game yet – looking more so than Enchanted Blade and Sword of Ramasekva. Still, Sword of St. Jerome remains a top five all time beauty. Nice stab, Carioz.

Runner up – Flamethrower. Chicklewis. Nice going on capturing classic cthulhu. Flamethrower and Dynamite are hand-in-hand cthulhu era weapons. Your six skulls gain is reminiscent of mythos +6 dynamite, as is wounding all friendlies. Plus both cards incorporate mass wounding of characters committed to same story. Impressive. Had you chosen Agency, I’m not sure I could have made a decision.

Flamethrower - Cost 3, neutral. Character gains (Skull X 6) If character with flamethrower is wounded or destroyed while committed to a story, all friendly characters currently committed to that story suffer an additional wound.

Dynamite – AD F42. Agency Cost 2 support weapon item Attach to an Agency character. Action: Dynamite from play to wound all characters committed to the same story as attached character.

AP 9 prognosticating champion is Bard for Gang Fights and Vengeful Mob! Congratulations! Syndicate both. Response cards both. After combat struggle both. Both employ character counts. The two diverge here. One focuses on adding combat struggle. One wounds target character. One employs committed, the other not committed characters. But look at the theme / title. Just too close to ignore. Malicious Woods led the pack of Bards many great ideas entered. The Spawn of the Sleeper for you sir.

Winner: Gang Fights , Syndicate cost 1 support: Forced Response: After a combat struggle has been resolved, resolve an additional combat struggle at that story if there are committed characters controlled by both players at that story.

Vengeful Mob AD F 47. Syndicate 2 cost event Response: After you lose a # struggle, choose an opponent's character. If that character has fewer # icons than all of your characters that are not committed to a story, wound the target character.

Thanks Hybrid for * John S. Cordovan Infamous Busybody and Do-Gooder, The *Blackball Jim of the competition. Thanks newager for Slippery Hands, Amok, and Secret Cultist Instructor. PRODIGEE’s two agency cards * Blackwood Hospital and Blinded by Muzzle Flash were also nice. Had anybody done something remotely undead-like, that would have been a gimmee. Thanks all for playing.

Wohoo, thanks JS! I had fun designing the cards. Hope to see some more interesting designs on the other "Design an AP" thread.

Nice work, Bard !

I couldn't possibly have made flamethrower an Agency card. GOTTA allow CULTISTS to use the Flamethrower !

'Dynamite' is my all-time-favorite MYTHOS card. The art is wonderful, and I love the twist of tightly clutching lighted dynamite to your chest as your only remaining friend.

Thanks, Shoes, for a small contest with BIG FUN !

Chick

Flamethrower could have been the first non-steadfast zero cost agency card. But that's going a bit too far, indubidably. Or you could just give it to Brotherhood Street Runner - Agency's excuse for a cultist...nah.

Thanks again to all who played!

Well, thanks Johny ! I had much fun reading this post.

And Hurray for Bard ^^
