Moribund question

By Daenarys, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Just a quick question

Opponent A does a military against opponent B and kills one of his characters. Can that character then immediately kneel in moribund and play ' a lannister pays his debts' event card ?

Just to further elaborate can somebody ( i'm thinking of you ktom ! ) explain exactly how long moribund lasts or more specificallly when action/responses can be played in moribund ?

Thanks

Cards are moribund from the time the effect that makes them leave play resolves until the end of the action window in which that effect was initiated/resolved. Said another way, all moribund cards are removed from the table during Step 6 of each and every action window.

That means the only thing "moribund" cards can ever interact with are Responses (since they will always be removed from the table before the next non-Response effect could be played in Step 1 of the next window). Well, I take that back. Passive effects might interact with moribund cards, too.

A Lannister Pays His Debts during a lost military challenge is used as an example of how Moribund works in the FAQ (pg. 17-18). No need to repeat it here.

Yes. Moribund characters can pay for costs of effects because they are still in play until Step 6 of the Framework/Player Action window.

Because the character is killed for MIL claim, and Lannister Pays Its Debts is responding to losing the challenge, you may use the character that you chose for MIL claim to pay for Lannister Pays Its Debts as this all happens during the Challenge Resolution framework window.

Can I choose one of my moribund characters to die from the deadly keyword since that passive effect occurs before step 6?

I'm asking because of the little blurb about moribund characters in the FAQ not being able to be removed from play by any effect. Is this only referring to paying costs or does it mean he can't be killed again (such as through the deadly keyword passive effect)?

So moribund cards cannot be removed from play, or targeted to be removed from play, for any reason . You cannot use a character that is already moribund/dead as a "meat-shield" for your other characters from other kill costs/effects, even if those kill costs/effects happen before Step 6.

Thanks for clearing this up for me. After reading the FAQ I came to the same conclusion as you, but someone I was playing with who has a pretty good knowledge of the rules seemed to think that you could choose the same guy for deadly AND claim for military. At least, that was what I thought he was doing.

Looking back at the situation, however, he only had the one guy defending. I suspect that what he did was choose his only defender for military claim (step 3) knowing that I was going to have the passive effect of deadly affect his sole defender anyways. My deadly simply had no effect since his only defender was already moribund from the military claim.

thanks again
