Running out of gold counters

By Lord Kalten, in Talisman Rules Questions

Hi all,

If you run out of gold counters, what happens?

Do we just keep a total of amount owed?

Or do we just assume that no gold is available. If so, then whilst it's obvious with things like Bag Of Gold cards, what if it was like an Alchemy spell to convert items to gold. I would assume that it got converted, but no gold was available. But there are those that would argue that that in turn makes the spell invalid and therefore cannot be case.

Thanks.

I don't think there's any official rule about this, so you can do as you wish:

a) If the Gold stockpile runs out, nobody may gain Gold until someone spends (this is how we do)

b) Keep track of extra gold on a piece of paper

You still discard Objects for turning them into Gold. If you gain no Gold for discarding Objects with Alchemy, because there's no Gold left, I don't see why anybody should argue.

A Spell like Enrich may be a problem, as you can't cast Spells with no effect. I think you can cast Alchemy but not Enrich.

Check page 15 of the base rules: Limited Resources

"All resources are limited to the number of components provided with the game. For example, if all Strength counters are in use, no additional Strength can be gained until some of those counters have been returned to the Strength stockpile."

This would apply to gold as well, with the exception the Merchants' Guild alternate ending that states "While this Alternate Ending is in play, the amount of gold in the game is not limited; if all of the gold coins provided in the game are taken, use tokens or counters to represent additional gold."

Sorry about the double post, must hit publish twice.

What a crazy game if all strength counters were in use! LOL

Yep there is 30 gold then no more left. Its a going tactic verus the alchemist now. Hench the merchant guild ending.
