Demon Pact

By RedSkull, in Dark Heresy Gamemasters

So I don't know if anyone else has even attempted to use a demon pack at all, but I wanted to temp one of my players. He took the bait hook line and sinker all for the promise of power. Not only that but with my fluff knowledge I decided that a lord of change would make a great demon to have a pact with. Now I have been letting my PC just go not really thinking much about the pact other than he got some pretty sweet benefits.

I haven't really gotten any chances to bring about the process of giving away parts of your soul.....that is until a few nights ago during the "rejoice for you are true" adventure. When looking around the alabaster court the Psyker decided to weaken the veil to make investigation of physic disturbances easier... forgetting that weaken that veil was still in effect he decided to use physic blade to cut through a door. He ended up rolling 4 disturbances and 2 of those ended up being perils.

Low and behold the second role turned him into a demon host....failed his possession roll and resist possession and even the fate re roll. Right as the demon reaches into real space into his chest to take his body another arm shoots out ripping the throat out of the demon. Right out the warp tear walks a lord of change and a new bargain is struck with his PC..........DRUM ROLL...........Sharing his body unknowingly with a lord of change

I'm thinking of slowly pushing him down the path to use sorcery..... Since the group is about to set foot into the HULK the twilight. I am thinking of having the psyker be lead away from the group into a warp tear and embark on a separate quest for his demon to recover a sorcery relic.
Thoughts and comments are welcome.

I think your Dark Pact side quest for the pc sounds like a great idea! The question I have is do the other players of the party have any idea that he's been made unnatural? One of the funnest parts of dark pacts is PCs keeping secrets from each other and having conflicting personal motivations. If you haven't played off this, I highly suggest, having the lord of change ordering him to do something that the rest of the party wouldn't understand or possibly would object to, just to get them questioning the character.

As for others using Dark Pacts, there is one running in my campaign right now, though not a traditional one. One of my players made a Dark Pact with what he believes to be a daemon for the promise of "strength of a space wolf". In reality the daemon is Slann Lord, manipulating him to gain defenses against a human threat in the sub-sector.

Yes actaully the rest of the party suspects something is going on they just can't prove anything as of yet. What is even better than that is that the Psyker is trying to turn the tech priest over to his side and his way of thinking....in doing that it is basically splitting the party into to factions which really makes for interesting play.

However In the most recent session that I have just run the psyker has had his demon removed. Now I'm not sure that is something that should have happened. I did want there to be that choice though. Even though the lord of change is a spinner of fate...choice is still the random aspect that can not be controlled. In randomly placing his 3 prizes into 3 different boxes one contained the power to remove the demon from his body....so know i am not sure what should be taken away...other than a drop in secret advice and a dip into what his power used to be. Oh of course there is a very pissed off demon that will stop at nothing to regain his control.

any other ideas are welcome

Umm so he does not have the daemon isnide him anymore? Just make the psyker think he got rid of the daemon. its still inside him. XD Make the psyker have blackout's take him out of the room and say something irrelevant and ask him to stay there until you call for him, during this time you(the daemon) controls the psyker. (since the other players don't know what you were talking about outside they will have no clue that it is a daemon contrilling the psykers action. lol I have to do it in my party. XD

Sounds like great stuff, although it will probably end in blood and tears. Since this is Dark Heresy, that's to be expected. cool.gif Do keep us posted on how this develops.

I had a similer moment in our group. The malicious arabite (with a daemonic pact) set my character (a young upstart Adept), and the sister of battle in our group up because we suspected he had been corrupted in some way. He led us too the Alabaster Court and set it up so I would duel the actor. The sister of battle is staunchly loyal to me, and upon seeing my defeat she put a bolt round in the actor. After which the party goers tried to have us exicuted. The sister and I revealed ourselves as inquisitoral agents and he revealed himself as one as well. They called the local arabites and they escourted us away. The arabite attempted to deceive the arabites, had me gagged and tied up and told them to exicute the sister, as he still had a use for me but no use for her. He failed, because they ran our identities and all three of us came up as agents. They politly asked us to take our conflict outside and settle it ourselves. There the sister of battle and myself faced him down. Upon realising he couldnt best both of us, he transformed into a demonhost. We retreated back to the arabite station and rallied them to fight with us. With their help, we sent the demon back to the warp.

Good times.

How's this for tempting?

The Keeper of Secrets offers the player who is conveniently a psyker, a magic scroll on which is written the secret of performing the long-forbidden (by Games Workshop!) psychic power: Temporal Distort. As the character reads it, he laughs maniacally as the ink turns to flames, burning the scroll to cinders.

You'll have to make up the rules for Temporal Distort, but I highly urge the psyker need to be at the highest psy-levels to use it. In the original 40k, you could stop time and repeat one phase of the turn, i.e. shoot twice, move twice, etc. Basically, it's a stop-time power. Very unbalanced. Heh heh....

wI keep on asking my scum player to make a pact on his character but he keeps saying no

hehe.. he might for psychic powers though, hes interestred in spook
