Speculation About the Scattered Armies CP

By lahomen, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

Am I the only one who can't wait to find out what's in the new CP? Here's how it is described:

"Harsh conditions and ceaseless conflict has worn down the armies of the Great Houses of Westeros, and the survivors are scattered across the land. Yet

some hope remains as reinforcements and reserves enter the fray. Some armies may retreat, others may regroup, and others will forge ahead. The epic

battle for the Iron Throne rages on, and it has only just begun."

Obviously we'll see some armies for each house, maybe some unique armies based on events in the books. What else do you think we'll see? An event or plot card that reduces the effectiveness of large armies?

We also need some more unique characters for each house. Martell has seen what, one unique character in this entire expansion?

Location control cards?

*Crosses fingers*

We got that in Refugees of War.

I wonder if we might get some "saves" in this set. Or perhaps a series of armies that, after they are killed, you can search for an army that shares a House Affilition or non-army trait with lesser STR and put it into play (the larger army was routed, but a smaller force remains and regroups).

I personally hope this last CP isn't as much a let down as Calling the Banners was. I don't think I've ever made a Bannerman deck, and I'm not even sure if Fishwiskers ever made my Greyjoy deck.

Calling the Banners has a good cards for Stark :)

Also I made a LCG Bara deck with Bannermen and it is good. Standing Robert can win you game in plot 2, specialy if you have Selyse (Core) out there.

Not enough. Not nearly enough

And in the LCG environment, it's more likely to bite you than your opponent, except in mirror matches. (It's great for standard, though, with so many people suing Kingdom locations.)

I actually expect to see a trend away from kingdom lcoations in Standard now that there are kingdom hate cards floating around. i further expect to see the Eyrie make a big comeback - married with atathcment control of course.

*cough* Targ *cough*

Sorry, my throat was a little dry.

People played Kingdom locations when Winter was around, which has a decent amount of location control. The reason is that they're cheap. And you more than likely will have three of them in a deck. Maybe the claim raising or 0 cost ones will phase out (since there are plenty of replacements for them).

... or if location hate does become a problem, Stark will see more play. And then... it will no longer become a problem.

The general lack of attachment control is another problem these days. I would be very happy to see a card like bastard.

Also i´m not fond of that late location control we saw - to easy, to cheap to play, and can´t be cancelled since we´re also missing cards like expendable ally. More or less an NPE after some games. It was a good idea to finally have some more location control again, however this sort of location control only works against income providing cards and it´s never an enjoyful playing experience to meet a resource denial deck.

On the other hand the bandits won´t help against locations like Bear island, Lady Daenerys Chamber, Tarth etc. and that´s really disappointing. It´s also dissapoiting for me that the kingdom location hate limits the 5KE agendas which were/ are in my opinion very good and offered interesting play.

So once again i would like to see something like bastard for attachemnt control and probably roving pillagers for location control. A more carefully balanced version of frozen solid available for every house would also be a good thing - 2 or 3 gold for a neutral frozen solid would be appreciated.

I think High Tide is a good balanced location control card.

Sure Greyjoy gets a discount, but location control is their thing....

Hence that card should be reprinted in LCG legality.

As for attachments... reprint Grand Maester's Chain.

... which also means Standard has attachment and location control, but remember when we had a lot of it? That was when nobody played locations or attachments unless they were over-powered. Even the Eyrie had its detractors because of the others plot cycle.

And that was very welcome in my opinion. It´s only just frustrating if there are special card types and effects and you know theres nothing you can do about them. Something like "oh great there´s an Arya with icy catapult lurking around at my opponents side of the table, well what can i do about that with little or less attachment control available for the house i´m currently playing :

  1. military challenge: two of my important charachters are dead
  2. wait to crush later into a wildfire assault, winter storm, house umber berseker etc. placing me into an even more desperate situation.
  3. hope that i can win the game with intrigue, power and dominance before situation 2. happens
  4. could cancel one or more of the triggered effects - not much card solutions around these days
  5. could remove the attachment - easy for house Targ, doable for Bara and well harder for the other houses"

I guess the bottom line is that situations were some easy card solutions would help, but aren´t available for certain houses happen more and often lately in some games. And experienced players tend to know that house xy hasn´t got a solution or an very unlikely one for a given situation I´m not saying that there are no cards to deal with locations/ attachments in standard, but most of them are too limited. Grandmaester´s chain also turns out to be one of these cards, you need to run maesters - have all houses the same access to maesters ? No.
