Question regarding The Cardinals Plight encounter 2

By superman2146, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Ok so me and my friends have a campaign going 4 heroes and me the OL. Ok my question is regarding the cardinal himself now i know that only zombies and deal damage and that the only way he can be healed is by the relic. Now one of the heroes ablitlies sorry cant remember his name he is able to burn a stamina to take all the damage from an attack for an adjacent hero i understand cardinal is considered a hero with exceptions just curious is he allowed to use that for the cardinal seems like if that is the case then the mission is lost when you rescue him. Any opinions would be very welcome.

Boom

1 : In a Cardinal's Plight can the Cardinal be diseased when does he start testing it ? While the door is sealed or when the library is open ? Also in respect to the Cardinal is he effected by attacks that do no target him but do damage IE blast or howl ?

2 : Do NPCs that have no stamina that suffer stamina loss from an attack or an ability is it converted into damage ?

3 : Can you use hero abilities like defend on NPCs like the Cardinal and Sir Palamon ?

4 : When the overlord is reinforcing for the turn does he choose the master monster or minion monster his choice while respecting group limits ?

5 : Do objective token IE the altar in Cardinal's Plight block los / movement and can you end your movement on the altar?

I can answer these questions for you but for future reference, please submit all rules questions via our website:

1: Yes, the Cardinal can be diseased, and he tests for it when he is activated. No, the cardinal may only suffer damage from zombie attacks.

2: Yes, if they have no Stamina, all fatigue suffered is converted to damage.

3: Yes, if they are treated as a hero.

4: He can choose which figure to reinforce.

5: No, the altar does not block line of sight or movement.

Okay one question, i played this quest for the first time last night and we were a little confused on the rules about when can the zombies attack the cardinal, can he be attack right away first turn? or does the overlord have to wait for the heroes to open the door and then he can attack? in this situation i was the overlord but since we didnt know the majority ruled in favor of waiting for the door to be opened for zombies to attack. is this right or wrong?

Zombies attack asap.

That does put some stress on the heroes, doesn't it?

i knew i was right it makes no sense for the overlord to wait for the door to open that would mean he need to stand there and do nothing during his turns until the heroes decide to open the library door it would be really easy for the heroes that way thank you!

If you absolutely can't come to a clear ruling on a rules question mid-game, I generally recommend the "roll a die" method for making immediate decisions, rather than the "put it to a vote" method. At least for Descent.

"Voting" works fine in a free-for-all style game or a co-op game, but in a 1-vs-many game this will almost always end up favouring the "many" side, for obvious reasons.

Yeah i believe we are going to do that from now on, also another question when can one of the overlord monsters leave the board like for example in the first blood quest when the goblin archers get to the entrance/exit tile that has 4 spaces can one make the overlord monsters leave as soon as they step on any space of the tile or does the monster need to get to the edge of tile and then he can leave? not sure if i am explaining myself correctly english is not my first language

To leave, it must spend 1 movement point to get off the map.

They must be on the far edge of the tile. See p. 9 of the Rulebook "Moving Off The Map"
