Raven Evolved for iPad -- Beta has Ended

By Tam, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

It saddens me to tell you that FFG has decided that fan apps and online versions of their games will not be allowed. No official statement has come from them, yet, of course, but the stop has been put on Raven for the iPad.

I hope my brief foray back into building an online version of GOT for iPad doesn't adversely affect OCTGN. If it does in the future when an official declaration from FFG is publicized, please accept my apologies.

Thanks to everyone to participated in the Beta.

Sorry to hear that, Tam. Even though I don't own Apple products, I know that you did some good work from the good old Raven days.

I'm sorry to hear your efforts gone to waste, and don't think you can bear any blame for any subsequent actions of FFGs.

I really hope FFG doesn't act against OCTGN, as for myself and several of my friends, it's the only way we can play the game at all as we have no local metas to speak of. We all still buy cards avidly and I even made it out to Worlds this year because we can "Stay in the game" thanks to OCTGN.

I count it as not a waste since I have polished my programming skills and taken them to a new platform. I also now have a complete, playable card game engine for iPad.

I don't see any harm in a deck builder for iPad. That was what most of the beta testers were using. I even offered to include links to local stores and to this site for people to purchase the chapter packs they would need in order to build their decks in real life. I've purchased cards in exactly this way through my own app.

Ah, well. It is what it is.

It's bonehead moves like this that upset me about a company. I'm sure there is some reason that we are not privy to as to why they C&D'd it, but on the surface it looks like a straight cockblock.

Agreed, Dennis. That's exactly my take on it. There's no better word than Cockblock in this case, I think. It seems that's exactly what's happened when someone a bit higher up didn't have or didn't care to look below the surface or even look at the app itself.

The person I worked with at FFG, I think, also had nothing to do with the decision, but even then it seemed that my numerous emails explaining how secure the beta was were not read or at the least not understood. It was very clear in the final email that if my app was found in a public place, a cease and desist would immediately follow. I had been very clear about the beta and how secure it was. It simply can't end up in a public place! It is compiled to work only on specific iPads. That's how Apple designed it!

Lesson learned? I'm still not sure. Maybe don't pro-actively approach the company but let them mull it over after a deck builder exists in the App Store.

Or, my current thinking, play some other games since I have to drive an hour right now just to find a group to play GOT.

I think I'll read another book and play Baldur's Gate on my ipad instead.

Tam, make sure you check your PMs. ;)

This is ludicrous! I am sorry but FFG needs to get their s%#t together! I am a die hard fan of this series, show, and game and have been trying to promote it in my area because I realize that it has a significantly small following. FFG needs to be doing all they can to grow this game and its player base and this sensless attack on fans and any potential attack on octgn would be a HUGE step backwards! This is very unpleasant news. I have just begun playing the game and it is because of OCTGN that 2 of my friends and I have bought over 50% complete collections in the past couple months and still rapidly growing. YOU HEAR THAT FFG? YOU JUST MADE OVER $1,000 IN UNDER 60 DAYS AND IT IS ALL THANKS TO OCTGN AND FANS WHO DEDICATE THEIR TIME TO MAKING GREAT FAN APPS SUCH AS TAM. DO NOT BE SO FOOLISH AS TO LOSE BUSINESS AND FANS OVER SOMETHING SO PETTY AS KEEPING AN EXCLUSIVE STRANGLEHOLD ON THE IMAGES OF YOUR PRODUCT BUT INSTEAD EMBRACE THESE TATICS AND HELP PRESERVE AND GROW THE FUTURE OF THE GAME. IF ANYONE IN THE COMPANY CAN SEE THIS PLEA FROM A TRUE FAN I URGE AND BEG YOU TO RETURN TAM'S RIGHT TO CREATE HIS APP AND REWARD ALL OF HIS HARD WORK (as I am certain he has fueled your company with far more purchases than I have at this point, or at the very least work with him and certify his app) SHOW PEOPLE YOUR A COMPANY THAT CARES ABOUT THEIR FANS AND REWARDS LOYALTY AND YOU WILL BE REWARDED 10 FOLD IN THE LONGEVITY OF YOUR BUSINESS.

I apologize for all the caps (Dennis lol) but this matter is very important to me. I got into this game thinking it would have a as big of a following as MTG but was dissapointed to find out it is rather faint and do not want to see anything diminish that alreadly tenative fan base. If there is anything I can do to help spread awarness of the game and promote it's greatness please let me know.

It just seems like every time I look someone is selling their collection cuz no one plays in their area. I am dedicated to stopping this from happening and try to grow this game nationwide to the point where we are talking not just about regionals but state championsips as well.
