I have submitted it this weekend, but of course there is no reply yet ;-)
Night Beast, Stress and Green Maneuver
I finally have "official" word.
Short Version:
No, he doesn'T get it.
Long version: The full mail:
Hello, Christoph!
- "Night Beast" reveals a green maneuver.
- "Night Beast" executes a green maneuver.
- "Night Beast" may perform a free focus action (if he has no stress tokens)
- "Night Beast" may remove 1 stress token from his ship.
- "Night Beast" may perform his standard action.
This ruling makes perfect sense when you break it down by phase, but my initial reaction was the same as Hothie's. I'm glad they got back to you so fast.
Fair enough. Thanks for the clarification. I've been wondering about this. And I'm glad it's going to be on the FAQ.
Yes, glad this was finally cleared up and that it will be FAQ`d.
Well, I'm definitely going to play "Night Beast" less now. Or at least not have him do many Koiogran turns, if at all.

I see no proff that Night Beasts free action takes place during step 3. His card clearly states that it takes effect after the maneuver. You remove a stress token "after" the maneuver. If you don't agree with Hothie on his explaination, then explain using the rules why it would take place in step 3. Remember that Night Beast's card doesn't say "immediately After".
Thats exactly the point. The wording is identical except for "perform" and "execute" which makes no difference rulewise. So there is no timing difference and both happen in the same step. Why wouldn't they, i have not read any good argument against this.
They happen in the same step because it's the same wording. You are the ship's owner, you decide to le stress expire, then you decide to gain the focus token. There is nothing that can prevent you to do so rulewise.
To say these actions happen in different steps is a very artificial construct and well… I have not read any real proof for it in this whole thread. Thus i will play the ship this way until further explanations from FFG come.

There already was a ruling…
- "Night Beast" reveals a green maneuver.
- "Night Beast" executes a green maneuver.
- "Night Beast" may perform a free focus action (if he has no stress tokens)
- "Night Beast" may remove 1 stress token from his ship.
- "Night Beast" may perform his standard action.
This one fooled me too, but again it was covered with careful reading of the rules for the Activation phase on page 7:
3. Execute maneuver. It is after this step that the free focus action would be assigned, but it cannot be done because the stress token is not removed until
4: Check pilot stress. If the ship just executed a green maneuver remove one stress token.
Good ruling.
Lets be clear on something though. Free actions are taken whenever they are granted. It doesn't matter the phase or the active ship. You don't wait until a ships "Preform Action" step to take a free action that ships ability generated. There is no reason to read the defenition of free actions in that way. They simply aren't the one "standard" action granted each ship during the "Preform Action" step.

Exactly. Which is why, in this case, Night Beast gets its free action before the stress token is removed… which results in no free action unfortunately.

Just wanted to make it clear given some posters views and tone early in the thread.
