The REALLY BIG question

By Tuesday2, in UFS Rules Q & A

Ahem... Will THE UNIVERSAL FIGHTER still be legal for block 3 if not i may have to quit the game in some form of sacrifice. What will happen to the poor people who don't pull a character in the pre realease's how will the have somebody to use and abuse, will the world as we know it end.

Good people of this forum i ask u to help keep the man himself around

Thank u

This will be covered in the upcoming tournament floor rules discussing sealed deck play.

You won't need to quit the game.

Also, couldn't you play a foundation as a 6/25 with no abilities and the printed 3 symbols, anyway?

it was you can play a card from your hand face down with 3 difficulty and it would go to your staging area as a foundation with no abilities at our last prerelease

The rules for sealed events state that you can use a face down card as a 6 hand size 30 vitality character with the infinity symbol. They just made The Universal Fighter as an actual card that you can use instead of the face down card, kind of like a lot of other games have tokens.

Actually that's not true.

The TR have NO caveat for not getting a character in sealed (I assume the rational being that you get a starter deck and will get a character guaranteed).

For BOOSTER DRAFT you can " player may choose a foundation from their deck at the beginning of the game when they would normally choose a character card this foundation acts as their character card for that game. If a player chooses a foundation instead of a character card they are considered to be playing a character card with a hand size of six and thirty vitality with no name and no abilities. "

Note also that you get the ~three* resources of the foundation you pick as your "character".

*Or however many resources are printed on the foundation.

for all intents and purposes, Sealed = Draft in this case. not every sealed event uses starters.

Maybe it'll be that way under the new tourney rules, but it's not under the current rules. And until we see the new rules, 1.9 is all we have to go on.

except maybe the words of the rules arbiters?

theyre there to interperet and one just interpereted that Sealed=Draft

No offense, but that's just crazy talk. 103.2.2 and 103.2.3 are different rules. Might as well say cats are dogs. It's one thing to rule that Cleansing Nirvana works, not by errata, but by mod fiat. It's another to arbitrarily decide that cat=dog.

If you want to run a constructed event with some of the booster draft rules, you're more then welcome to do so, as long as you advertise in advance. Or you know, anything that's different from the actual rules. On the other hand to claim that the rules are suddenly not the rules but some other bizarre agglomeration.... that's not appropriate. Draft!=Constructed. They ARE different formats. You can run your constructed w/ draftish rules. You can't just rewrite the TR without actually rewriting the TR.

Again, there is a difference between rewriting the rules and interpreting them. There is no interpretation involved in this one.

Aslum,

Allow me to quote from the description of the forum:

Have any questions about UFS? Post them here. The current rules arbiters are: Antigoth, GouHadou, Tagrineth, and Korrin. Their answers are official.

That being said...

The original question is about whether or not a player can use "Universal Fighter" in a block three sealed event.

I stated that the user would have nothing to fear after block 3.

At present day, the official stance from the OP guys last time I checked was:

Run your event so that your players will have fun, please note that official events run by FFG will use the official tournament rules.

Between now and April 8th, as far as I'm aware, there are no official sealed booster only events being by FFG staff. As such all events fall on local judges. If they are holding sealed events, they're going to have to explain the rules before the start of the event anyway. Every sealed UFS event I've been to they've taken time before the product is opened, or while the first pack is being opened to explain the deck construction rules.

By the time this epic situation where you are concerned that the arbiters are overstepping their bounds comes to pass there will be new tournament rules.

I dunno about epic. Seriously though, Official doesn't mean Infallible. 2+2 doesn't ever equal 5, even if it is "officially" said to be so. Not even for extremely large values of 2 .
