[Video] World Championship Finals - Game 1

By zachbunn, in Android: Netrunner The Card Game

We caught the Netrunner World Championhip finals on video this past November and this morning we posted the first game (of three) to our website. You can catch the entire match in full HD with commentary right here . This game is truly epic and will be one for the ages! Enjoy,

Zach

Nicely done. Look forward to the others.

your overlays and commentary are both great. keep em coming.

This is a brilliant match with brilliant coverage guys well done. I loved the UI overlays for the different sides and the commentary is informative and fun.

I have one piece of constructive criticism that is maybe in post production you could add pop up card images so when a card is played, it appears on screen briefly so people can read the rule and see what card it is.

I loved watching this and by the end I was almost biting my nails with suspension to see who won. I would love to see more coverage like this even if it was simple practise matches with various deck archetypes; It makes great watching!

Thanks again.

I do like the overlays, but from a usability standpoint it would be helpful for them to be the same size, less busy and to have the important data displayed more clearly (i.e. same layout for numbers). It's not immediately obvious what tracks credits and what track agenda points (full screen HD is no problem, but on an iPhone, it's tough to make out).

Thanks for your efforts! It is a good game and a great video you've made! Look forward to Game 2.

Question:

at 38:25 or so, the Runner places a Parasite whilst already having 4MU worth of cards on the table. How does he do this?

Nevermind, they answer it at 42:18.

This was a fantastic game; shere excitement from beginning to end. Your commentary and colorful special effects on the corners only enhanced this already awesome game. Great work; keep 'em comin'! :)

I'm rather surprised the TOs let Jeremy use a die for his Credits and that they let Ben order his deck after shuffling with that complete BS "pile shuffle" (note: it is possible to randomize your deck a little bit with a pile shuffle, but not the way Ben was doing it).

Yeah, it seemed to work out well for him.

Thank you for highlighting why the TO should not have allowed them - it saves you a lot of grief when there is actual cheating if you take actions to prevent the appearance of cheating.

1. Ben shuffled his deck the usual way at least ten times before doing the pile shuffle (not to mention Jeremy also cutting his deck at the end)! There was absolutely no way he could have affected the order of the cards. It was well randomized and clean.

2. Pile shuffling is an accepted method for shuffling cards when mixed with other methods (just as Ben did it; although, to be absolutely fair, it would have been better if he did the pile shuffle first and then the conventional one). Pile shuffling separates cards that might otherwise stick together, making randomization more thorough. It is not much of an issue in Netrunner, but in Magic, for instance, where lands usually end up in a group after each game, pile shuffle is a widely accepted way to break up these coherent grounps (again, when mixed with other shuffling methods).

I know what pile shuffling is, how to do it right, and how to do it wrong. He did it as wrong as you could get. Watch the video again. The pile shuffle he did was anything but random. If this was about declumping, the pile shuffle should have been before the 10 other shuffles he did, not after.

I hope I'm not the only one getting a kick out of this. :)

lol im just imagining the pro netrunner tour where a dealer is shuffling and dealing both players hands to them.

My word! I hope this never ever happens! Luckily events cannot have a judge/dealer for each table so I doubt it ever will =D

Part of the fun of card games is drawing cards, I don't want some random guy getting that joy!
