Pre-Constructed Decks (i. e. M:tG Theme Decks)

By mdc273, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

Anyone else notice the lack of an easy entry point to this game? (Is this even necessary to ask? LoL)

Compare AGoT to M:tG:

AGoT - 1 Core Set ($20 - $40, Rulebook, Valar, and cards you might want), 1 AGoT Expansion ($20 - $40, cards, deck list, but not pre-constructed)

vs.

M:tG - 1 Intro Deck ($10 - $20, rulebook included, pre-constructed/playable out of box with a little shuffling)

So the main points are:

1) $10 - $20 vs. $40 - $80

2) Playable out of the box (with shuffling and reading the rules) vs. Requiring deck construction (with shuffling and reading the rules)

I find it hard to believe that random new gamer with no knowledge of the difference between CCG and LCG would ever choose AGoT.

It's $10 - $20 for the super popular game in a nice simple box or $40 - $80 for the niche game and the confusing two boxes.

Does anyone else see value, or lack there-of, if FFG were to put out pre-constructed decks? I'm pretty sure I'd buy them if they had new cards in them.

My friends and I played the decks prebuilt from the Core Set for several weeks before broadening our horizons with Deluxe boxes.

What a completely fresh thread containing an idea that has never been discussed before, up to an including other threads on the first page of this board! Thanks for making this ;)

Eh, no one called out the start deck concept did they? I mean I even called myself out in the thread I said I was going to make this thread from! And my point is very tangential, if not totally unrelated, to that original topic.

@Bomb - Do you still only own 1 Core Set or do you have 3? Do your friends still play with you or is that $20 - $40 core set now all yours? Do you enjoy playing the core set pre-mades or do you wish there was another pre-constructed deck you could play based on the more recent chapter packs? (These are probably all moot points, but this is the general gist of what I'm getting at)

I guess I do not follow the point in the OP. $40 brings you 4 different decks as starter/intro decks. 4 people can split the core set for $10 each and rotate who uses these decks.

The magic intro deck you mention is a relative cost which after a very short while is likely boring to keep using.

I guess I am failing to see the point, sorry man.

It's cheaper and easier to get a single person into Magic. That's really the crux of the point.

That would be a very dull game :-D
