Smurf. They won't be doing prequel stuff. There license is for classic trilogy. And mixing up timelines is just dumb.

How is that any more dumb then mixing cards from Empire, and cards from Jedi?
I'll be able to put hoth troopers with ewoks if i want to, and that is awesome. I like the idea that I will be able to put characters together that were never in the same places in the films.

I don't know, calling it dumb just seems a bit harsh.

Empire and Jedi is a couple of years of fictional time, where the gap between Episode III and Episode IV is closer to 20 years. So I guess to answer your question, it's about 10 times as dumb?

Anyways, hyperbole aside, if the license is for the original trilogy era of material, we've got more than enough to work with and enjoy, so hopefully, whether you liked the prequels or not, we can all come together and enjoy this particular outing into the Star Wars license.

I would like to see them explore other eras with the game, license permitting, albeit years down the road once there is plenty of Classic era fluff to play around with. Assuming the Disney sequels don't retcon the New Republic era into oblivion (which I think is a fair assumption given their treatment of licenses such as Marvel, and Capcom cameos in Wreck-It Ralph ), I think that would be the best place to venture into next. I would expect to see the Rebel Alliance affiliation being the host of New Republic objective sets, with perhaps a new affiliation card with an alternate title to match.

Affiliations are actually the main problem I see with branching out into other eras, and the only reason I don't take it as a given at this point. Jedi, Sith, Smugglers and Spies, and Scum and Villainy are all timeless affiliations, but Rebel Alliance and Imperial Navy are confined to a limited scope of the Star Wars timeline, and at least two new affiliations would need to be added to the game in order for expansions to regress to the Prequel era and earlier. Now, there is a precedent in CoC's Order of the Silver Twilight for FFG to add subsequent factions long after a game's inception, but it would need to be handled far more delicately in this case, since it's not merely the addition of an affiliation or two that would change, but expansion into other eras that not all fans of Star Wars are fond of.

It's more likely to be a separate game probably when/if they expand to new eras. Similar to Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit card game.
