First attempt at 100pts - feedback desired

By Grimwalker, in X-Wing Battle Reports

So, this is my first 100-pt build. I've got 2 Core Sets and TIE/Ad, my buddy has one Core Set, plus Y-Wing and an extra X-Wing.

He was running Horton Salm, Wedge, and Biggs with a Protorp, Ion Cannon, and R2-D2 and whatever R4 mech repairs hull damage.

My list:

Night Beast (15)

Dark Curse (16)

Mauler Mithel (17)

Black Sq (14) + Marksmanship (3)

Darth Vader (29) + Swarm Tactics (2); Cluster Missiles (4)

The idea is to group up the first three and last 2, so that Marksmanship can get the benefit of Vader's initiative. I won handily last night, but I suspect only because I had read more about moving in formation. My friend lamented at several points "the theme of this game is 'Wedge runs into everything.'" So I don't really know how well I'll hold up when we're equally practiced. That Y-Wing is a beast; I lost Vader after being Ion Cannoned two turns in a row while I had a stress token on.

I think we'll both be rethinking our builds, any advice would be welcome.

I think you really need howlrunner in a five ship build

well if I had more expansions it would be a whole other kettle of fish.

Drop who ever you need to in that list and add Howlrunner, then fill in what you can.

I agree, try to fit Howlrunner in there. Maybe drop Mauler Mithel for her.

How about this:

Total Squad Points: 100

Pilot: "Dark Curse"
Tie Fighter (16)
Upgrades:

  • No Upgrades Selected

Pilot: "Howlrunner"
Tie Fighter (18)
Upgrades:

  • Swarm Tactics (2)

Pilot: "Night Beast"
Tie Fighter (15)
Upgrades:

  • No Upgrades Selected

Pilot: Darth Vader
Tie Advanced x1 (29)
Upgrades:

  • Swarm Tactics (2)
  • Cluster Missiles (4)

Pilot: Black Squadron Pilot 1
Tie Fighter (14)
Upgrades:

  • No Upgrades Selected

Yoyr right, Howlrunner comes in the TIE expansion pack. Well thats an excuse to pick it up as you just can't live without it. reir You might try:

  • Vader w/Squad Leader and Concussion Missiles
  • BackStabber
  • Dark Curse
  • Mauler w/ Swarm Tactics
  • Black Squadron TIE

I prefer Concussion over Cluster and with SL vader can upgrade Backstabber, so he can manuver and gets his ability activated, without sacrificing a action becuase he has two. Swarm on Mauler to bring the Black Sqd. pilot up to 7. So you will have pilots at 9,7,7,6,6 skill level.

So the answer is "buy Howlrunner." Le sigh.

you need an extra TIE anyways, most wave 1 imp list function best at around 6-7 ships

Considering the products you own, I really like your build. I think "Night Beast" and "Dark Curse" get pushed to the back because of "Howlrunner," but they are more than decent pilots. The other thing I suggest is try to avoid using Koiogran turns around Y-wings. Instead, try to jet out of there and circle back around to the fray. This is DEFINITELY dependent on 1) whether somebody is tailing you and 2) whether it's a timed match.

Horton's ion cannon, especially, will tear you up without an evade or a focus, but "Night Beast" can get evade AND focus, while "Dark Curse" prevents the rerolling of attack dice, so those are your anti-Horton ships right there.
