I'm sure this has been brought up tons of times. I found multiple mentions of it, but I'm going to bring it up again anyway. I really don't want to buy two more copies of the core set. That's just ludicrous. Isn't the whole point of the living card game that I won't have to break the bank like with a CCG? However, I still want flexibility in deck construction. If I make a shaper deck, of course I want three Toolboxes! Sure, I can only use one, but I can bring it back in the rare case it gets trashed. Also the odds of drawing it become much better.

Is it possible for FF to sell some sort of "core completion" set. All it would have to be is a box that includes 1x of all the 2x cards and 2x of all the 1x cards in the core set. By my rough estimate it would only be slightly more cards than what are usually included in a data pack. I would pay $25 for it. It might seem silly at that price, but it's still slightly cheaper than another core set, and way cheaper than TWO more core sets.

I think I'm going to start playing this game seriously, and I've already played with a few people who were crazy and bought three core sets. I would like to be on even footing without emptying my entire wallet.

The purpose of an LCG is not to make it cheaper, neccesarily, but to provide no more blind pulls. You will never have the agony of a random pack, not having the ability to find out exactly what is in the pack. This makes the game easier to net deck, easier to avoid purchases of a pack that has no cards in it that suit your fancy, and easy, in a pinch and pending stock, to grab a data pack (or chapter pack or whatever) right before a tournament because you lost your "whatever" card.

An LCG will still be cheaper than a CCG, for now. A Game of Thrones would only require about 300 dollars to buy a tournament worthy deck worth of cards, where as in magic, that's how much it costs to get three booster boxes of ONE RELEASE (w/ little to no discount mind you…): You now have to do that for possibly 6 other releases for that blocks' releases and then half of them are no longer legal in one of the more popular formats and then you'll have to do that purchase several more times.

LCGs ARE cheaper, too.

Please research other threads on this topic and read them. I will not give answers as to what FFG is willing or not willing to do, nor comment on their decision or how 'fair' the core set is, or how it doesn't meet the LCG requirements (requirements that FFG gets to define, and that no one really knows what the definition of purpose for an LCG even IS to begin with).

1) You don't need three sets to be competitive, just two.

2) A core set is $26-$30 online. $50-60 should not be "breaking the bank" or "emptying your entire wallet". It is also nowhere near the amount of money you have to lay out to competitvely play a CCG with randomized boosters.

3) A second core set isVERY nice to have just so that you can build multiple decks without having to switch out core cards between the decks all the time (Hedge Fund, Pad Campaign, Melange, Enigma, Wall of Static, Priority Requisition, Sure Gamble, Infiltration, Armitage, etc.).

Make friends with someone that doesn't play Shapers.

I am actually more interested in getting a second Core Set so I can have 2 Runner and 2 Corp decks together at the same time.

Having a second core set isn't too terrible an investment, and if you're buying online, three core sets is still cheaper than a single display box of M:tG cards. The third is really a huge set of diminishing returns though, there's only a handful of cards I'd consider running three copies of, and you really don't need nine and six copies of the other cards. That said, I did submit and buy myself that third core because I'm a bit OCD about completionism (I also have all my cards sleeved, including all nine of my Access to GlobalSec). While a set of cards that made gave you additional copies of the core cards that aren't up to three copies would be amazing (and I'd probably buy at least one, if not two), I can't imagine it happening, ever. Two core sets is really all you need for solid deckbuilding, and I don't actually think I've used any of the third copies of the single cards in decks, except maybe Corporate Troubleshooter, once. Honestly what I like most about having three cores is being able to build starter decks at a moment's notice for teaching people the game.

Radiskull is correct however. There is zero point in rehashing this argument in yet another thread. No good will ever come of it and never has any of the hundreds of times before and the OP clearly said he knows it has been done already but did it anyway despite that fact. To serve what purpose exactly ?

I'm pretty sure the Solution would be for this thread to not exist. So failing the ability to delete the thread, this is the next best thing.

Debating whether it's best to buy 1, 2 or 3 Core Sets will just leave us arguing forever. It's really up the individual to decide which way is best for himself. It's a completely personal decision.

The OP wants to find a way to make complete sets of cards from the Core Set. He suggests FFG puts out a "completer". Since that's neither a reality now nor a likely possibility in the future, we have to find other ways to do it. Since he's unwilling to buy a second Core Set, what else can he do?

I'm fairly new to the game but this is what I think.

1. I agree with you that FF should come out with an expansion of the core set for card completion. I also agree with FF selling singles. Unfortuantately, FF isn't listening and so we need to find us a solution.

2. I have a Shaper deck and my fiance has a Jinteki deck out of our 1 Core set. They are both very good decks. People have commented on my deck and so far so good. Playability is great! We are kicking butt and having fun. We decided on buying 1 more set mainly because I need to make a corp deck and he needs to make a runner deck. We also each just want 1 additional copy of a few cards.

Overall, I can tell you, you really don't NEED a second core set. However, a second core set makes deckbuilding quite flexible.

I can guarantee you that a third set is absolutely NOT necessary at all unless you want to have 3 to 9 copies of cards.

On Netrunner altogether so far I have spent $75. That is 2 Core Sets, 1 WLB expansion, and 1 TA expansion. It builds 2 good Corp decks and 2 good Runner decks. Shop online for the best deals. PM me for store info.

3. Trade. If you have a group of players that don't play the deck factions that you play, just trade what you are not using with what they are not using. There is also online trading all over the web, Facebook. and even in these forums. Just PM people and I'm sure some people can help. Once my fiance and I finish our corp and runner decks, I'm more than happy to trade.

Or, if you're like me and trying to budget everything like banannas, is do a spreadsheet. (Have the core and 1st expansion… I love Xmas presents)

Right now I have a "Master page" that lists each and every card I have (I should do Quantity too). There's a pdf of the core cards, so a quick copy pasta from there plus adding the new cards from the expansion (I do like noting which cards are from where, just in case I'm playing and a friend likes the card and wants to know where or something) So after I get a decent deck build, I create a new tab, name the deck ie "Runner 5year old tantrum deck" and list the cards in there and how many of each.

Then when I want to play, I decide which deck I want to use, grab the cards and play. This allows me and my hubby to each have our own separate styles of decks but use only one set. . The only drawback is making sure that your cards are put back in a somewhat recognizable order for easy picking.

If we ever strike it wealthy, we'll probably get our own sets but for now, it's what we found that works.

Full playset of Return to Ravnica is $600.
