Don't understand The Defense of Yavin 4

By zirlburg, in Star Wars: The Card Game - Rules Questions

I am attempting to learn how to play this game. Can someone please explain the instructions on the objective card titled "The Defense of Yavin 4". The card text says, "When you play a Vehicle unit, discard X cards from your hand to reduce its cost by X (to a minimum of 1)." I understand the concept of discarding cards from your hand and I understand that X means "any number". What I don't understand is the part that says, "to reduce its cost". What does this mean? There is nothing in the instructions that talks about the cost of playing a vehicle unit.

You reduce how many resources you use to bring the vehicle in to play by how many cards you discard.

if a vehicle has a depoly cost you can discard any number of cards to reduce deploy cost by 1 per card but cannot lower cost below 1 resource.

example

vehicle cost 4 resource to play… you discard a card

it now cost 3.

if you discard a second card it is now a cost of 2.

if you discard a third card it now cost 1 resource to play

any further discarding of cards will not lower the cost of this card.

Thanks. It sounds simple once you both explained it. I guess the card text needs to be clearer.
