Pure attack/defense characters vs. characters that uses Ki

We had a discussion in my group, about characters who spends all their primary combat DP on attack and defense. We were unsure if it was realistic that one would do that, or if would seem natural that one would develop a few KI techniques along the way? Or that a weapon master would not invest in wear armor? It’s probably worth to note that we were level 7 and will be level 8 once we start next time.

So does it make sense to go pure attack/defense all the way?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, it makes perfect sense for someone to go pure combat with no ki. Although along the way they may want to develop some ki abilities.

The examples you've given are actually not allowed by the rules.

Warriors, Acrobatic Warriors, Paladins, Dark Paladins, Weaponmasters, Rangers, Technicians, Tao and Shadows CAN'T use all their Primary DP on Attack and Defend.

There's a 50% cap on Attack and Defend, but these classes have up to 60% of their DP to spend on Primaries. So there's always wiggle-room for Ki, Wear Armour, Weapons/Style Modules, Martial Arts, Ars Magnus etc, even if you've maxed out on Attack/Defend.

Obviously, with the classes designed for non-pure-combat, who have a 50% max on Combat Primaries, this doesn't apply.
