Checking Alignment for Thousand Sons Sorcerers

By Qaia, in Black Crusade Rules Questions

Thousand Sons Sorcerers start with 15 Corruption Points and aligned to Tzeentch. It is feasible that after the first Compact, the threshold for checking aligment, i.e., 20 Corruption Points, is reached. However, what would the Alignment be if no Advances were purchased for any particular god (for example, all the XP was either spent on obtaining several unaligned psychic powers, biomancy, pyromancy, telekinesis, telepathy, divination, etc.)?

Page 75 of the Core Rulebook on Checking Alignment states: "[…] compare how many Advancements they have purchased that are affiliated with each Chaos Power". So, purchasing from unaligned is irrelevant to checking Alignment. I can't seem to find anything in the Tome of Fate book that would clarify how to treat such a case.

Therefore, at the 20 CP threshold, the Alignment count in the above example for each of the 4 gods is 0. So, does the Sorcerer become Unaligned or remain aligned to Tzeentch? What if less than 5 Advances towards Tzeentch were purchased? Tzeentch or Unaligned? What if less than 5 Advances towards Khorne, Nurgle, and/or Slaanesh were purchased? Tzeentch or Unaligned?

Take a look a few threads down…

The thread cifer refers to has three ways, being argued about, to decide that.

1-You are aligned, but have no advances so revert to unaligned if you cross the threshold before you gain them.

2-Each advanced class counts as a basic archetype and you count the additional advances from the base to decide how aligned they are.

3-Class is aligned. It takes five to be aligned. So the class counts as having five advances towards its alignment at creation.

Forget the other thread. What you or your GM should do is houserule it such that Thousand Sons Sorcerors count their alignment towards Tzeentch as being 5 higher than it otherwise would be. Regardless of what we're arguing about over there, that's the solution that we all agree on.

*facepalm* with regards to creating this thread and not seeing the other thread. Just saw Khorne Berzerkers in the title and got scared away LOL

As I posted on page 3 of the Khorne Berzerker thread, I favour option 2 from Cryhavok. I think that just starting with a 5 count towads Alignment advances is an arbitrary number and falls just short of realistic considerations. Rather, I would compare the already-aligned character with the unaligned counterpart from the Core Rulebook and list separately all the advances that the already-algined character has that the unaligned character doesn't have. Then, tally up all those Advances and use those counts for the Thousand Sons Sorcerer for subsequent Alignment checks. All the advances in common, though, do not contribute towards Advancement counts. When you do this (as I showed in the other thread) you get the following counts: Tzeentch = 6, Slaanesh = 1, Nurgle = 1, and Khorne = 1. This way, the Thousand Sons Sorcerer will not lose the Tzeentch Alignment should no purchases be made at the next Alignment check.
