Question about Yellow Matter's mutation tokens (spoiler)

By TEnOTT, in Mansions of Madness

Now I'm translating Forbiddn Alchemy scenarios for next game.

Case 1.

YM's Special Rule says,

  • Test Subject is treated as a corpse marker for the purpose of Keeper Action Cards (maybe Harvest Organs only)
  • Test Subject may be treated as an investigator for the purpose of the "Surgical Tools" Exploration cards
  • Otherwise, the test subject is not treated like a figure of any type.

Keeper action card "Unwilling Test Subjects" can "Give an investigator in the same space as a cultist 1 mutation token".

"Surgical Equipment" reads like this; "Action : Take 1 horror to discard up to 2 mutation tokens from an investigator in your space."

I cannot understand these because there is no way the Test Subject can get mutation toke n . UTS gives an investigator a mutation token, and Test Subject is not investigator. Also events and clues does not give any mutation tokens to Test Subject. Then what is Surgical Equipment rule is for?

Case 2. (spoiler)

Event 4 for Objective 1A gives a mutation token for each investigators with Test Subjet, as FAQ noticed.

But the three Keeper Action cards, Harvest Organs, Unwilling Test Subject, Mutagen Testing is not related to the mutation tokens on investigator.

Also, Objective 1A is not related to the mutation tokens on investigator. Then what is this event for?

For 1B or 1C, mutation token on investigator plays some role, but I cannot find any other usage of them for 1A. Can I do anything useful with mutation tokens on investigators, not for Objective?

You're right. This seems an unnecessary rule. My guess is that they either forgot to put something to give the test subject mutations on a keeper action, clue, or event, or they ended up taking it out of the game and didn't update the rulebook.

I'm not quite sure what you're saying here. For objective 1A, the keeper wins if he kills the test subject OR an investigator who has at least 1 mutation token.

Other than that, though, there's no reason to be putting a mutation token onto an investigator, except to make them think that something bad is happening. It totally worked on me when I played YM. I kept getting all these mutation tokens put on me and I thought it was going to kill me somehow.
