My core rulebook and Inquisitors handbook arrived today. I should be able to have a look at them after work.

Thank you for all of your repiles they have been very helpful.

Enjoy!

If all else fail, they are gorgeous books you should be happy to have on your shelf. :)

I'm getting my group to save up for a hardback copy of the core book :P

I'm not certain that my little stone in the pond will make much of a difference at this point, but Emperor of Man, most Holy and Rightouse, would blast my eyes for not poking my head into the thread. So, yes it is worth getting. I was not a big 40k fan ... always fealt it was over the top and full of power armored psychopaths beating one another over the head with their machismo ... Dark Heresy changed my entire perception of the setting and has become something of a recent obsession of mine. I have been gming for ... well, a damned long time ... and I have had few games I place on the "must have" list - this has quickly stepped forward to join those coveted ranks.

Yes, the general concensus is, buy it! (in the immortal words of Arnie - "Go, Go now!")

Well, your original opinion of the universe wasn't too different for mine. I hardly heard of 40k until Dawn of War, I assumed wargames were one of those hobbies that simply required too much time, money, and space for my tastes (which they still do.) And when I meet the Space Marines it was "Ho-hum, like I haven't commanded power-armor wearing killing machines before." The premise behind Dark Heresy however, interested me as it allowed you to play as pretty much everyone else in the mythos. I'm still hesitant to get it because it is so expensive but I might despite having hardly any roleplayers in my area (a major consideration to my purchases.)

So with that, thanks for the feedback. May the Emperor and my deathworld variant Guardsman (If I can figure out how to roll one up) repay you in kind.

Aye. I'm still hoping for an actual 40k rpg which DOES feature power armoured psychopaths beating each other over the head with machismo.

Seems such a shame to waste the IP.

I can understand that, I am always purchasing gaming material I know I will never actually get to run because I don't have the time. (I love collecting interesting game worlds and have dozens of them gathering dust) The problem is, my players love campaigns and so don't want to run one system for three months, then move on to another ... me, I could do that and probably never run out of material to gm.

I say look in ebay for a discounted copy if money is tight - I know I've got more than one game book there over the years.

Between Dark Heresy, Rogue Trader in August, and Deathwatch presumably next year, a player/GM should have everything they need to run anything 40K.

We don't have to have an "actual" 40K RPG, we have one already that is continuing to evolve and grow beyond the bounds of the tabletop game thanks to Fantasy Flight.. The material is there, or on the way. From that point the game is what you make of it. :)

BTW I dig the video. Pretty cool stuff for DH inspiration. I might make some use of it. ;)

I must admit that I had a bit of a turn today as one of my players announced that he will be running our groups DW game and presented some really interesting ideas about a squad of marines who end up working for a radical inquisitor their minds and faith changed by what they see, a fallen saint (since we have 2 girls in the group who dont play male characters) and and OA assassin (go go Calidus). Looks to be very promising.

Oh I've done the same, hence why I have some stuff for Cyberpunk, the entire Cybergeneration line, the core four books for D&D 3.5, almost everything in the d20 Modern line, a few things for Mutants and Masterminds, some Rifts Earth stuff, etc... Too much junk to already use that a sixty dollar book is a hard sell, especially with another one on the way that promises to be even more interesting.
