-= A few quick questions from a person new to the forums, semi new to the game, but an old man when it comes to 40K... =-

By Stormweaver, in Dark Heresy

Hey folks,

Just getting started here on the forums here at FFG, and I have a few quick questions / comments.

The only thing I ask in concerns to replies:

If the intent of your post is to flame or attack, please just disreguard my post, I'd rather be ignored then yelled at.

O.k. done with that.

1. In reading throughout the forums, several folks have mentioned a really well written player made set of rules for Space Marines. I'd like a link to the rules if possible. Please note, this is not an open call for Pro / Con Space Marine fighting. I just have a good group of folks, part of whom want to play Acolytes, the other part wish to play a Tact Squad of Grey Knights all of whom are under my NPC Inquistor - A former Grey Knight Space Marine Sgt.

2. Where is the best spot to view player submitted equipment that might not be covered in the DH book?

3. Does the Creature Anathema cover Xenos races as well? One of the upcoming investigations for my group will be to look into rumors that a Tau Gunship was spotted landing on one of the Feral Worlds near the edge of the Calixus Sector, and currently I'm unsure how best to judge stats for any Tau or Kroot.

4. To anyone from FFG that should read this in passing: I think you folks are doing a wonderful job so far. I do wish that a few more things could get out a tad quicker, but being involved with development on RP projects in the last few years, I do understand all that a company goes through from idea to finished product and do very well respect what your getting done. Thank you for your efforts and support to the community so far, I hope your able to continue to follow suit as you have been.

5. To any players in the central S.C. area who are looking for a GM, feel free to contact me through the forums, I might be willing to set up a second game, if there are enough to play.

Thanks to any and all who provide replies and or answers to the above.

1. I've forgotten.

2. The Dark Reign Forums. darkreign40k.com

3. It doesn't have anything on the tau, and very little on the Eldar. I think this is because FFG has to pay GW everytime they use a trademarked names. Or just that the Tau are on the opposite side of the Galaxy. There is some pretty good stuff on Dark Reign though.

Welcome to the forums Stormweaver. Hope you enjoy your time here. happy.gif

To answer some of your questions.

1. I myself don't recall where the fan-made rules for Space Marines are. I'll have to look into it myself. I may be in need to use them. For something more official, in "Purge The Unclean" there is Brother-Sergaent Agamorr, a Deathwatch Space Marine that accompanies the PCs in an adventure. It shouldn't take a lot to tweek his stats for a group of Grey Knights. Of course next year with WH40kRPG Game 3- Deathwatch coming out next year (supposedly) Marines will be fully and officially covered.

2. Again most of the places that have done fan-based equiptment are pretty good. However I don't have any links on hand ATM.

3. Hate to say things to the contrary monkeyman but FFG's relationship/licensing that FFG has with GW doesn't work on that sort of basis. That sort of notion is pretty absured since the use and development of the games an open matter and in the long run, everything is GW and 40K approved/cannon. Smartly GW is leaving in the hands of FFG instead of developing it "in studio". cool.gif From what I am seing, if something is not there, it's being planned to be released in the future. In short, any sensable kind of game development of a trademarked product (not just GW stuff) these days works on an open principle with the poperty owners having final say in what goes out with the results being cannon. You can thank the efforts of a lot of gamers and deveopers for that one.

However I will concour that the lack of the Tau Empire and the Xenos within, in "Creatures Of Anathema", would be due to the fact that it's a good ways away from the Calixis sector and probably would have more bearing on "Rogue Trader" than anything else. That doesn't mean however that the Tau arn't in the sector. Calixis is a big place.

I have yet to get the book however from what people have said, there is a good layout of the basics for Eldar, Orks, some 'nids, and various Chaos and 40k TT based xenos within. However I have also heard that out of them there hasn't been much touched on in regards to the Eldar (perhaps due to the fact that the Eldar as a whole stay away from the Calixis sector). However there is a writeup of a known Eldar Corsair lord and his fleet that comes into the sector every so often. Haven't heard much about the Dark Eldar being in the book, however there is a good basic writeup of them in "Purge The Unclean". A lot of "Creatures" focuses in on unique,.old, and new entities that don't translate well into the TT game but are perfect for an RPG setting.

4. I personally concour with you all the way. FFG has really kicked ass when it stepped up to the plate to continue the 40K RPG project.

5. I got some gamer buds in SC. I'll pass the word on to them. If nothing else they can get the word out to people looking into a game in your area.

The supplement was done by Richard Littles, aka The Patriot, and while he caused mch controversy and many attacks and what not during the process of making the 80 page or so booklet, the end result was a very good product. Also look for N0-1-H3R3's Tyranids book.

Once Unearthed Apocrypha gets its full face lift and revitalized web page for its year two volume, both of these e-books will be available again from that site.

On the subject of play-written supplements, I keep hearing of something called "Ascension" that's supposed to cover players who advance beyond the realm of Dark Heresy, but can't find any sort of link of info. Can anyone help?

Thank you to the four of you who have responded so far!

1. Anyone know how long Unearthed Apocrypha expects to be down? I tried to find copies of the book elsewhere on line and could only find it on a torrent (pardon my spelling if its wrong on that one) site, however, they are not accepting new users at this time, and its an older download which you must be a current user to get. So once I got past the grumbling on the catch 22, I moved on to check else where to find all hands pointing back to the mentioned site.

2. Purge the Unclean does sound more and more like it needs to be one of my next purchases, with I guess Creature Anathema right behind it.

3. Without causing a fight I hope, how well and at what level does Rogue Trader fall into play? If my understanding is correct, its written on the same frame to be able to use both at the same time, and I wouldn't mind having some of the information that the book seems to hold, so long as its written to go along with DH. Are like weapons maintaining like stats? Are you playing the Trader, his crew, or both?

Thank you to Clockwork Gecko for passing along my presence to your friends in SC, feel free to have them contact me at -= [email protected] =- if they are interested in meeting.

Again that you to all who have responded, I hope to be involved with the forums as I become more adept with the site, and more comfortable with providing my own thoughts and such.
