Storage case for X Wing Miniatures What are you using?

By Boomer_J, in X-Wing

Plano 732. Still room to grow.

Has anyone tried using Great Stuff (or similar product) to make their own form fitting containers? Just curious.

As for the small cards I bought baseball card sheets, fit for cards from the 1950's, each slot is 2.5" high x 4" wide, perfect for 2 Upgrade cards. I run a little glue down the middle of each slot to give each card its own pocket. (16 pockets per sheet when done like that).

I also have some sheets that I only glued about half of the pockets, I put my Pilot cards in the unglued ones and the Damage cards right next to them, in the glued slots. (It's difficult to explain but it keeps things organized better in the game, for me anyway - I have a touch of OCD) Oh, and the small base pilot templates fit well in the glued compartments, also.

Im going for a more "display the fleets" solution.

Is this built into the wall in- between two studs ?.....Never give up , Never surrender

I used to use one of these:

With Wave 3 I had pretty much filled it to capacity with my X-Wing collection. Now, with the announcement of the Imperial Aces expansion and my plan to buy 4 of them, I knew I needed more space. So, to increase my storage capacity, I dug out one of these that I had sitting empty in my closet:

However I think this will be a temporary solution as I'd eventually like to get a Battlefoam bag for my X-Wing collection.

I use KR Cases, there bags are **** good and the foam is soft and giving yet hold the models well.

Clicky

I just got a KR multicase for storage (2KR aluminium): http://www.krmulticase.com/cases.aspx?system=STAR&army=XW

I filled it with Star Wars foam sets B, C and D. This allows me to store 40 Fighters, 2 YT-1300s, 2 Firesprays and 2 Shuttles. I had to get creative to fit the shuttles, and Y-Wings, HWK-290s and B-Wings don't fit in the fighter slots when on their bases - you have to separate the fighters from bases and (optionally) use a small chunk of spare foam to stop them moving around. I put the base cards in with the fighters and the maneuver dials/pilot cards in plastic bags in my KR Kaiser 1 travel bag.

Overall I'm pretty happy with it but you can probably get something as good for less money if you shop around.

I use five parts cases with modular plastic trays of 3 sizes (full, half and quarter)

It sounds like quite a bit - but I've a large collection.

I use one case for game tokens, templates, dice, damage cards and upgrade cards (which fit nicely in the half size cases)

I use the other four cases in 2 sets of 2 (Rebel / Imperial), identical layouts as follows

1 case for the ship cards, bases, pegs, base inserts, number tokens and maneuver dials.

1 case for the miniatures themselves.

Here's a picture of the case holding the miniatures -

4 A-wings, B-wings, X-wings, Y-wings, Hwks and 2 falcons

8 Tie-fighters, 4 interceptors, advanceds, bombers, 2 shuttles and 2 firesprays.

My friend (a carpenter and master miniature painter) built custom display case built-ins with lighting and glass door for storing and displaying his miniatures.

That's great if you have space and you play at home, neither is true in my case.

Im planing on using one of these in the future. Its a Hard Bass case. Just remove the inside and put in all the plastic cases. Its gonna fit on both sides. Awesome storage and just cool to bring along on tournaments.

And then put an imperial or rebel logo on it... that's a cool idea :)

It's also probably long enough to put some rolled up play mats in as well...

My thoughts exactly..

I keep wanting BattleFoam, and then I keep reminding myself how often my storage needs evolve with this game. We had an article or post on afewmaneuvers.com somewhere that demonstrated how to make your own foam trays. Cheap and easy, so Im leaning towards that.

I've finally just finished a storage solution for my x-wing minis.

I got a battlefoam PACK C4 2.0. The main pocket is made to hold 3" of foam so I have it set up with 1" of storage for tokens and bases and such, and then 2" of foam for minis. Then there is another pocket that is probably about 1.5" thick that I keep everything else in. Here are some pics....

It fits everything and it has decent potential for expansion. Eventually it may need to expand out of just this case but that definitely shouldn't be until wave 4 at least and I may even be able to get through that without needing much more.

I'm using a Plano 1364. The only thing I'm unhappy with is that the lambda doesn't fit in one of the four pull-out trays. It's sitting in its original plastic packaging in the top section with the maneuver dials and movement templates.
