Assault missles against evades. Also a question about manuevering through an astroid

By Torresse, in X-Wing Rules Questions

alright, so I have a question that sounds really fun to ask in my head. If ship A has an assault missle and fires at ship B, and ship C is within 1 range of B and choose evade as his action. If Ship A hits ship B with said missle does Ship C have to receive damage, or can I evade it? I can see where it would be realistic, but I dont think it works like that due to the wording in the rules.

Ive also been into a debate with a friend of mine. If your manuvering by an astroid, and your manuver template barly misses, do you still hit the astroid (by hitting when you ran your ship down the center of it)

When I ask him why he thinks so, he quotes the FAQ (this debate lasted about an hour before we rolled off and we started playing)

Q: After a ship moves through or overlaps
more than one obstacle, does the owner
roll an attack die for each of these
obstacles?
A: No. He rolls only one attack die regardless of the
number of obstacle tokens his ship moves through
or overlaps
I tell him this is a totally different question its clarifying, but he insists that it is moving through. Short of sending an email to the devs (they still havent even responded to say they got my last rule question I submitted 3 months ago) how can I explain to him (unless he is right) that manuvering through an astroid does not include running your ship along the maneuver template? I read through the rule book, and unfortinately I couldnt find anything that diffenitivly said that you only use your template unless your ship ends on it. I dont blame him for being hard headed because I am just as hard headed, but the next tournement we have, we are going to need a set standard on it.

First question: No. Ship C may not spend an evade token to avoid the "splash" damage from Assault Missiles. Wording on the card says "each other ship at range 1 of the defender suffers one damage." End of discussion.

Second question: NOTHING matters except the movement template and the FINAL position of the ship. In this game, ships are NOT considered to be moving "along" the template. Movement is explained on page 7 of the rules:

3. Execute Maneuver: Holding the template
firmly in place, grip the side walls of the base
and lift the ship off the play surface. Then place
the ship at the opposite end of the template,
sliding the rear guides of the ship into the
opposite end of the template.

Notice that NOWHERE does it say anything about moving the ship along the template. It is simply a point-to-point movement. So, if the movement template does not overlap an obstacle, and the FINAL position of the ship base does not overlap an obstacle, there are NO penalties for moving through an obstacle. Period.

The section of the FAQ quoted is indeed for a different but related question.
