My 100-point MC Hammer "You Can't Touch This!" Stealth TIE Interceptor squad

By Stormtrooper721, in X-Wing

My exactly 100-point MC Hammer "You Can't Touch This!" squad":

4 x Alpha Squadron TIE Interceptors all with Stealth for 84 points

Dark Curse for 16 points

All four TIE Interceptors have Stealth and Dark Curse is just plain hard to hit even without it. This squad has 14 Attack dice which is just shy of the 16 Attack dice and the enemy will have less Defence dice against it (5 sets of Defence rolls instead of 8). I'm not saying that it will be impossible to hit but it would be difficult. What do you think? It has excellent firepower and is pretty difficult to hit.

I would move one of the stealths to Dark Curse. Dark Curse with Stealth is just sick. But that's just me. Yes, Stealth on any ship with 3 base agility will be a difficult task, and almost guaranteed to be seen lots come tournament time.

Sounds really cool. What this tells me is that I need at least 4 TIE Interceptors next month. I think you would want to keep your squadron at range three if you can. Remember if you ships get hit, they lose their stealth. So you want to play defensive instead of just letting your stealth do it for you. If you let your ships get hit then those stealth upgrades were pretty expensive.

I am really eager to see how the TIE interceptors and stealth play.

This should also tell you that you need 2 Slave 1's, for their 2 stealth cards each…

I like the idea of Soontir, Turr, and 2 Alphas in interceptors all with stealth (or 3 APs in TIEs, 2 with stealth, to replace the 3 Alphas)

yeah,
Stealth only comes with the Firespray? That sucks.

Since I plan to buy one firespray and one yt-1300 it seems like I'll be short on cards.
Hmmm, seems like its gonna proxys Vs hopeing and praying for skills/upgrades booster card packs…

Yeah, I'm hoping that the "Print on Demand" option opens up so we can order certain cards from FFG because I'd like to put Stealth on every ship I have, so I'd order like two dozen Stealth cards!

I gotta say that I am a little disappointed. I was super excited for TIE interceptors in their own right, but it feels like their thunder is being stolen by this experimental new "Stealth Device" upgrade. Not a big deal, but I'll try my luck without it first.

It will be intresting to see how this configuration works out. Can't wait for the release of the Tie Intercepters. It is unfortunate that the Stealth cards cannot be purchased individually.

yeah,
I'll have a card from the firespray.
I only need one to read.
I'll list build as i want and I'll just mark ship cards with the stealth upgrades with a glass gem or some other method of proxying.

Likewise, during my latest read of the rules booklet I wasn't able to find it written anywhere - that this is not allowed. If anyone can find any such rule - give a shout.

It may just be implicit in the regular rules book. But in the Tournament rules it explicitly states (Under "Tournament Squad Pool - Legal Products"):

"All components from the following products may be used in officially sanctioned tournaments.
Components in any product not listed cannot be used. Only official models, cards and tokens can be used in tournaments (proxies of cards and ships cannot be used)."

Pretty harsh. I just hope FFG does not follow Games Workshop business model.

I don't think it's harsh. You can do whatever you want at home. But you really think you should be able to show up at an official tournament with micro machines models, and photocopied cards, and homemade maneuver templates, and be allowed to play? The game is very accessible in terms of cost, and it doesn't have limited edition chase cards that only the priveleged few have.

I don't think people should be able to sub templates or models at a tournament. I do however believe that when it comes to upgrade cards they should be able to be photocopied. At this time in order for a person to have a particular upgrade card they would need to purchase a model that they might not like or use. In this case spending $30.00 - $40.00 to get stealth cards. Great for FFG but not so great for the community and is not a good business model. Just read the thread and pay attention to the tone of getting stealth upgrade cards. It speaks volumes. Lets hope that they create an option for people to print them from their website or purchase them individually or as action card packs.

I disagree. If you want to play, yes you could either proxy, or if that is not allowed, make do with whatever you have. You can still take part with a rather reasonable squad even if you do not have like x5 of everything. If you want to win however, you should be sinking in the money and effort. if you cant do that, then you don't deserve the win as much as another person who has done that.

While I don't think someone "deserves" to win more just because they have spent more, I do still agree that official cards should be used. I also don't think this is as big a deal as some think. I don't really think most people are going to want to run more than 2 ships with stealth in a 100 point build. Some will, yes. Also that upgrade is not really designed to be played that way. It is limited to limit it being put on every single ship I think, on purpose, as a proportional game balance consideration.

I could be wrong on all these counts though.

I also would be happy for them to sell the POD cards or card-only expansion packs. But some of these responses are a bit tongue in cheek here. Does Stormtrooper really want literally 2 dozen stealth cards? I don't know.

I don't want this to become is WalletHammer!
I wont ever be buying 6 firesprays just for the upgrade cards so i can put them on a 6 A-wing net list that flies itself?

Great! What happens when there is a limited edition unique prize upgrade card?
Lets say there are only 100 of them, and they sell for $200 on ebay?
Will you be singing the same tune then?

if you want to use it, you pay for it, simple as that, no way around it.

Yes. Yes! YES!!!

I do!

I honestly, sincerely, really, really do.

I really do want to put Stealth on every Imperial starfighter I field in battle. An extra Agility on TIEs is well worth 3 points. I am seriously considering e-mailing the "Print on Demand" people and just ask them to print me off a couple dozen Stealth cards and charge me watever exorbident rates they so desire.

TIE Fighters and Interceptors are fragile. I don't want them to get hit, especially by Assault Missiles!

LOL Stormtrooper. It never occured to me that you were fielding 24 TIEs at once.

More power to you, and long live the glory of the Empire!

What about ebaying the Firespray model and extra cards you don't want? Buy the ship for the few cards you want and sell off the rest piecemeal. Maybe other people want multiple Assault or Homing missiles and you can recoup some of your money. The max you'll ever officially need is 6 if you want 100 pts of TIE fighters running around with Stealth Devices. That's 3 Firesprays. If you want to play 500 pt home games, then you definitely don't need to buy 20+ of the official cards.

That would be the way to do it

I can see in the future ffg doing packs of upgrade cards, a small fairly cheap deck of upgrade cards that contains new/old upgrade cards. Ffg have proven in the past they arent into things like wallet hammer, they want thier tourny systems accessable by everyone and not just those with the most disposable income.

i used to play invasion a lot, and before the ridiculous power creep ffg used to listen tomour feedback, they adjusted the battle packs so that it contained full play sets rather than play sets of some cards and singles of others. Im sure if we request it enough ffg will start to,print boosters of upgrade cards.

In the "Play Reports" section I've posted videos of my first two games in which I fielded Vader and 10 Academy Pilots (that's 11 TIEs) in two 150-point games.

I'm pretty sure in the future I'll be playing games of 200 points and more, like the Death Star Trench run and the Battle of Endor (the latter especially when the B-Wing comes out!).

I want to have my TIEs ready for the big battles!

TIE fighters did not have Stealth devices at Yavin or Endor. What kind of Galactic Civil War re-enactor are you anyways?
