Now it’s time to start modeling the core frame.

this is truly awesome work! I can't wait to see the Nebulon grow on your desk...

I’m starting with the main engine housing. I have four bulkheads that will be tied together with joist. You can see the notches I cut out along the outer edge of the bulkheads for the joist. The core of the 7 engines will be made from 1” PVC conduit. The hole in the center of the three bulkheads is for a 1¼” dowel rod that will serve as the core for the spline of the ship. The short bulkhead (No # 1) is the one that will be the last one on the back end of the ship. The bottom engine is partially exposed and sits below this last bulkhead and attaches to bulkhead (No #2) with the top row of engines. These top engines pass through the holes in bulkhead No #1. The two middle engines are also partially exposed at the sides and will then attach to bulkhead No #3 and pass through bulkheads No #2 and 1. Bulkhead No #4 will be the on closest to the front of the ship.

looking good mate, its interesting to see how, what I consider a 'professional' builder works, with plans n drawings and all that shiny stuff!

I generally just glue bits together and make things up as I go along!

Although my Neb B is scaled to game use it will be interesting to see how they compare in terms of proportion if yours is a true scale replica...I look forward to updates and more importantly hope you have lots of fun!

Now chop chop and get cracking, lets build a fleet!

Thanks bulldoguk! I love the modular approach you used on your Nebulon B for easy transport. I think I might go this route also.

Super cool model.

My wife and I have been using a lego Tantive IV, it comes out to about 1/288 scale but close enough, we've been doing scenarios where the empire has to get off X number of damage on the cruiser while the rebels try to take down the empire in time. It'd be a lot less clunky if I could a paper craft model.

http://lego.wikia.com/wiki/10198_Tantive_IV

Looks like you are off to a good start out of the gate ;)

Thanks KennedyHawk I love Legos to I wish I could afford them but I already have too many hobbies taking all my money. I think that you having a wife that plays the game with you is just AWSOME. You are a lucky man.

TRamsey, I love your projects. Sometimes taking the first step is the hardest part of modeling.

Modular is definitely the way to go I reckon boomer especially considering this beast is gonna be, what? 1.5m long? Probably a good idea to make those solar panels on the base of the engine pod either removable or able to rotate to aid storage, the Neb B has got to be one of the most awkward shelf monkeys I own!

Construction has begun.

Of course Boomer, you know that a creature of this scale is just screaming for internal lighting, engine glow and an airsoft 'laser gun' don't you!

Just my luck. Fantasy Flight comes out with a CR-90 right after I spend all that time and hard work on mine. Yes I will still be buying one or two.

I wonder if I should put off building my frigate?

Yours will be closer to the correct scale. ;)

Yours will be closer to the correct scale. ;)

Yep they have said they will be using a sliding scale for ships, which I'm not surprised about.

Lets hope they make a Nebulon B next, bulldoguk can send them his ship to rapid prototype a mold.

Hey Boomer, I'm a long-time paper modeler and have developed a Nebulon-B in several scales from 1:1000 to 1:350. Currently I'm working on getting it to fit on letter size paper in 1:270. You think it could be useful for the front end of your beast? The paper model in question is based off a model from the same computer game mod as the CR-90.

I would love to see it Millennium Falsehood . I have come across some of you work in another forum and I’m amazed at the work you do.

I'd keep working on the frigate. I doubt they will make a "miniature" of that size ship.

You guys are awesome. The closest I get to modelling is unpacking something from it from Amazon or eBay. Boomer_J rememeber I said I was going to get one from Amazon, well... ooops it's here.

I think everything we been doing, rules, models, eBay, Amazon made FFG realize that there is a market for this. Mostly I thank you guys and Cat (don't remember her user name) too. Good job guys/gals.

I wonder if I can sell what I just got from Amazon on eBay now? Yes I'll be buy some of them.

Hey Millennium Falsehood, I am also a long-time paper modeler, and I think I may have built one of your models before. Currently I am detailing a 1/270 GR-75 transport, but I would absolutely love to get a pdo file of your Nebulon B whenever you think it is finished. I have found with the transport model that keeping the papercraft shapes simple and adding scratch-built touches afterward makes the process much easier, so I don't mind if there aren't many details.

It looks like Boomer_J has also taken this approach with his corvette.

Getting the basic shapes all to scale is the hard part, adding greebles is the fun part.

Hey boomer, I wouldn't worry about what ffg is planning to release or not. The important thing is if you enjoy the build. If your having fun then stick with it mate, whatever the result its gonna be a smashing thing to look at and something unique to sit on the shelves, just my two penneth as a fellow scratcher ;)
