Once FFG runs out of Star Wars ships to make would you like to see fighters from other SciFi universes added to the mix?

By zathras23, in X-Wing

So the guy looking like Captain Future is called Avatar? ... how creative ....

........

...

..

now I hate it

You have to remember.. With Starblasers... they did it first in many instances.. so.. creative.. yes.. and before its time..

...and about 30 years before the film with the nice 10 foot tall blue cat people aliens.

I don't know about Starblasers ... or whatever japanese cartoons ...

Is this stuff popular in the US?

For us sci fi geeks it sure is. I personally haven't kept up with the Starblasers stuff, but had I realized they had kept it going I sure would have. It was an awesome series.

If they were to branch out into another IP. One I'd like to see them look into is the Wing Commander IP. Lots of options there, and WC played a fair amount like Tie Fighter or X-Wing did.

I loved to play the Wing Commander games.

There would be enough types of ships and weap to create a miniatures game.

It was back in the early eighties along with Robotech, and others.

In Japan Star Blazers is pretty much their Star Wars. I am over simplifying this comparison, because the show is like Star Trek in terms of following one ship of heroic adventurers. This is a series that has ran in Japan forever. It is mainly a war drama, and yet it has many of the best elements of Star Wars in terms of last minute escapes made by characters you grew to love as the episodes played out. It had (Has) some of the best epic space battles ever produced.

**** ... it seems there is a whole universe we in germany don't get to see .........

Yeah but you still have your own cool stuff. Look at The Empire, that is Lucas tipping his hat to one of the worlds great armies.

R2-D2 and Threepio are also glimpsed in Raiders of the Lost Ark. That could be our link to the WWII planes in the game. I wouldn't actually want Indy as a pilot though since he crashed everything he flew.

Sure ... I'm back in my garage where I build my panzer

What do you think how much cool stuff we have here in Germany? We dont have cartoons with the Battleship Bismarck flying trough space and Super-Stukas with plasma bombs softening the enemy up for the Hyperblitzkrieg

Dammit you have THE SCORPIONS!

:D

Can we have stats on this thing please.

I simply have no idea how to respond to this wonderful little bit.

But as for crossovers, absolutely not. I want to keep my Star Wars comfined to Star Wars.

Dammit you have THE SCORPIONS!

Well yes but ... well ... yeah ........................ this truly is very satisfactoring ..... truely ..... we hardy need something else

Crossovers are weird. I say no. But I'd welcome all sorts of stand-alone games using the FlightPath system.

I don't think FFG has to worry about running out of Star Wars ships. By the time they get through the first couple waves of obvious EU candidates, we'll have (or be very near to having) new Star Wars shows and movies, and the new ships that come with them.

Even if the timing isn't perfect, there are ways to stretch the current ship selection with new cards, upgrades, scenarios and so on, until there are new "iconic" ship designs available. Kind of makes it unnecessary to consider bringing in non-Star Wars ships.

That doesn't stop FFG from making non-Star Wars FlightPath games that are perfectly compatible with each other. I don't expect that, though. I think we'll see new FlightPath games from FFG, but I think they'll include their own quirks and mechanics that make them basically incompatible, as with X-Wing and Attack Wing.

No. I'm sure the new SW movies will give them plenty of ships to work with.

Dammit you have THE SCORPIONS!

According to Star Trek Enterprise (for what thats worth) in another time line you have Stukas armed with phaser cannon. And as an Englishman who has a German mother and had relatives on both sides during both world wars i would love to se the Space Battleship Bismarck. Actualy there was a battleship Bismarck in that universe in season 3.

As for Yamato it has been running on and off since 1974 and has been ripped off by everything from Star Trek (which one could say was an inspiration in the first place i suppose) to Battlestar Galactica to Independence Day.

Reiji Matsumoto its creator (well, the person who was brought in to fix the really bad original Nishizaki idea which bore no resemblance to Yamato and turned it into what is arguable the most popular show in Japanese animation) is considered a national treaure. And for what its worth the original names which for obvious reasons are better were Okita instead of Avatar and Kodai instead of Wildstar.

His Creation 'Space Pirate Captain Harlock' is definitely German. to the point that in a flashback during his origin movie we see his ancestor flying a Bf109 against the allies.

There i go, rambling again

Deutschland, Deutschland, Uber Alles.

followed by das Panzerlied

And then I start ranting in german "Das ist nicht gut, alles Kaiserliche Jagdflieger ist Kaputt!"

In other news, you could feasily port the Space Spitfires from Doctor Who... they had laser cannons and everything, "Danny Boy to the Doctor!"

I think a spinoff one shot of nBSG might not be a bad idea, it would certainly do better than that hideous "attack wing" nonsense.

Dat Cake ya'll make too.

That looks delicious.

But back to the issue at hand, I'm against cross-overs. I wouldn't mind seeing the Flight Path system used for another millieu, but no cross-overs, please :)

B5, BG, Yamato and Wing Commander would be my top picks.

The only crossover i would support would be old school BSG and Buck Rogers. There was talk of combining them from people at Universal Studios way back when but the idea was vetoed either due to budget or sense. But i think it would work since technologically they both were no shields, non warp/hyper capable fighters the same sort of weapons and pretty much the same design team.

Any other cross over doesnt work for me.

But, if we did old school BSG/ Buck Rogers all the maneuver dials would only have Boost or Right turn maneuvers!?

.. ..both had really epic theme music though.

True enough, but then again if we were limited to original Star Wars then the Falcon would only have 'drift lazily to the left' and 'jam its tramsmissions' *L*
