Id love an original series Galactica game, though the limited ships would make it a bit useless. Unless of course the Galactica in this version reaches Earth in the 25th century.

Having played the WEG RPG, I know that there are at least a couple hundred different fighter designs out there. Some are lackluster, but there are plenty of unique fighter designs.

And it would be, But by game standards so is the planetary Ion Cannon *L* But as a fighter based game with Earth, Gamilon and White Comet ships, not to mention the later races, that would be plenty of variation. And since the Yamato remake series is going to be on Cartoon Network it might achieve some status

First one when they are scanning a debris field,
Second one being spaced when they have a hull breach.
Not sure which episode of Firefly, they are parked and one of the escape shuttles is detaching if I remember right.

I discovered Star Wars, Star Blazers, and Battlestar Gallactica in that order, and love them all. Funny thing is that over the years Star Blazers is the only one that remained consistent, kept the story going in series programs and books and toys, and is now being done with ultra love and care with the high tech gear we have now. Star wars kind of did this too, but when they made the super biggest thing in the world new trilogy...it sucked.
The clips I have been seeing of the new Blazers...well it is some of the best sci-fi I have ever seen. 9.5.
