I think the second part is correct, it seems for this mode of fire they wanted it be a heavy hit. Giving it Felling 4 and Proven 5 would do that for sure, I think making it also only one shot at 50m balances it out as having a semi auto attack with Felling and Proven would be so overpowered. This gun seems to give the players the options of more modes of fire in combat very well, a nice standard lasgun, then a sniper mode and a big power hit shot.

That's a typo. It's supposed to be called Incineration Mode or at least that's what it was called in the Beta. Anyway. This is (otherwise) as intended. The Triplex pattern gives you greater variety than the standard M36 Lasgun at reduced reliability.

So just to make sure I have things 100% straight in my head…The 'burst mode' is in fact supposed to be 'Incinerate mode' and it retains the S/-/- RoF in exchange for a shorter ranged, more hard-hitting shot. Correct? Also, does this mode consume any extra ammo in the same way that the M36 variable settings do?

If that is the case I might have to encourage a player to pick one up to see how it works. Our weapon specialist has been enjoyed playing at being a Marksman, so might enjoy these new options

I wouldn't know about what the "right" name is but yes. The Triplex pattern has three firing modi. Normal mode, precision mode and incineration or burst mode. Both precision and incineration / burst mode change the firing rate to S/-/- and modify the weapons profile in a variety of ways. The Triplex pattern does not consume an increased amount of ammunition when using these alternative firing modes.
