Hit/Shield effects

Had a couple questions while tinkering around.

Does a shot that is absorbed by a sheild token count as a "hit" for the purpose of other abilities, such as the stealth upgrade. Stealth is discarded on a "hit" does that mean that all sheilds have to be removed before its lost or is it taken away the first time a shot is not evaded away? To further extrapolate, is stealth lost if the ship hits an obsticle or takes damage from some other means such as using "Draw their fire" to take a hit for a different ship in a way that wasnt an outright ship to ship "hit"? I assume all those things are "hits" but wasnt sure.

On a similiar note, the Ion cannon says that all damage dice are ignored, and the target recieves a damage card. Does this bypass sheilds since the card is being directly issued by the ability, or does that damage card get absorbed by shield (and then, if thats the case does the ship get an ion token?)

Yes, the first few 'hits' get absorbed by the shields. Because of this, the first shield lost, also results in the stealth device lost.

The Ion cannon card actually says "the ship recieves 1 damage", not "deal one damage card". So yes, one shield is lost and the ship gets an ion token.

godofcheese is right on both counts. A hit is defined on page 12 as "at least one uncancelled [hit] or [crit] result". Whether it is absorbed by shields or dealt as a damage card is irrelevant to being considered a "hit".

On the other hand, and to further address the first question(s), note that the wording of Stealth Device says "If you are hit by an attack ". Be aware that suffering damage is not the same as being hit by an attack. Damage from obstacle collision is NOT considered attack damage, so no stealth removal. Likewise, Draw Their Fire says that you "suffer 1 of the uncancelled [crit] results instead of the target ship". Again, no stealth removal because the ship was not hit by an attack - the other ship was. There is also a discussion in another thread about whether the "splash" damage from Assault Missiles would cause stealth removal. The consensus seems to be no, because again it was another ship that was hit.

So in summary, the Stealth Device would only be removed if you (the ship that has the Device) were unable to cancel all [hit] and/or [crit] results of an attack made against you, by the rolling of and modifications made to your agility dice.

I reserve the right to be mistaken.
