Missiles and torpedoes require a target lock to be fired. Do they also need their target to be in their firing arc ?

Yes. All weapons need to be in the forward firing arc unless they specifically have rules saying otherwise (Slave 1 and Falcon's primary weapons + the Ion Cannon turret for Y-Wings)
