Some questions

By Calepin, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Hi !

The first is to make sure that I understand well the card. Threat from the North . If I have a character with 1 strenght with 1 or 2 duplicates, all these cards go away because I can't save them. And duplicates saves cards. Am I right ?

I played against a greyjoy and he have the card veteran marauder . What is considered a text box ? I know that keywords and traits aren't in the text box, but what happen with bonus like +1 gold ?

Thank you

To your first question, duplicates can be discarded to "save" a unique card from being removed from play (killed, discarded, returned to hand/deck, etc), unless the effect says "Cannot be Saved", or that, in saving the card, you would not remove whatever constant effect is causing him to be killed.

That latter point is what matters with Threat from the North - his strength is 1, the plot is revealed, his strength is now 0 and he must be discarded. Unless you had a "save" effect that also made him immune to that discard effect or the strength lowering effect (or boosted his strength), you can't even initiate the save. The only current examples are "Risen from the Sea" "Rhymes with Meek" & "Moqoro".

As for what counts as a "Text box", see the FAQ sections 3.8 and 3.9. The relevant text "is that Gold modifiers, influence, and initiative modifiers are not called out with an outline, and are therefore a part of a card's text box." (Icons and Crests are called out with an outline, and therefore are not). Keywords and traits are in the text box, though.
