Hi every body in the Fantasy Flight Games. My name is Wiets and I am a little stuck with my campaign. you see my friends/ players are very individualistic and are getting bored with linear story lines and even sometimes do the excact opposite of how the story develops. Sand box is the new Hype in computer games and I thought "why not?".

Now I am busy with a semi setting/ adventure in a Hive known as Armageddon. (the Hive has been known as thus; bacause the saint that came to liberate the world got a revelation about the warp, the nature of the emperor and the darkness that chaos represents). the Hive is a nother mining facility and 4 different forges are active constantly producing weapons. the Hive is dotted with different temples and churches in the name of the god emperor (though about 75% is heretical and this will be an integral part of the players game experience)

The players will be sent Via a Black ship to aid the local inquisitor. (local as in: sector local) or I am going to let the players come from the Hive itself.

in the latter is a problem: if I let them come from the Hive the player(s) I can give them some extra information but I am afraid the players could schism from the group and let their loyalties be more toward the gang.

what if I get 2 gangers, 1 psycher, 1 arbitrator, 1 cleric and 1 techpriest? this is going to be hell in one way as many are going to screw each other over in a nice battle for surperiority within the group. or even worse: the scum could start killing each other off while the Arbitrator shoots them, the techpriest fights with the Cleric and nobody is going to be bothered to listen to the Psycher.

I would love your opinion about this.

I have build a map of the Hive (photoshop is a very handy tool to make quick but good looking maps) and alotted who lives where and how big the area of influence of each group is. where certain situations are happening and where the what ploot hooks reside.

But I have the feeling tha's not enough so if you could help that would be great

as for villains I have many different groups:

first of all Slaanesh and Khorne both have increasing interest in the Hive and both have a couple of demons placed here and there (one in a local slaughter house, one in the mine which both are Khorne demons, one in a tempel and one posing as the Lord governer's wife. which are Slaanesh's)

the tempel of the Star father (gene stealer cult) who have even allies in the Hive's nobility.

twenty gangs each with their own feuds, area of influence, vices, favored weapons ,leaders and pecking order.

six guilds each with feuds, area of influence, gang affiliation, nobility affiliation and pecking order

I also tried to build a convincing court for inner Hive politics:

six nobles each with feuds, guild affiliation and possible heresies they are commiting

the six guilds

two heads of the Arbitrators on the Hive ( Justicar and lord marshall)

four magos ( 1 heretic through tech heresy, 1 heretic through incompetence)

one PDF commander

one chapter commander (salamanders)

one Bishop (purification through purgation fanatic)

and ofcourse the planetary governer. (though he is never physically there the rumor goes that he is affraid of assasination)

but how am I going to proceed with the politics itself? I have been opting to let causuality take stage and when one type of heretic bites the dust the politics will shift so that the players can slowly identify the heretics in the court. but I think I am going to give the big clues away to easily if I do it thus. so what do you suggest I do?

oh and one last question: I have a group of slaughter men who have become corrupted and are now selling human meat in sausages. these sausages are the best type of meat one can find and it's hugely popular. now I am going to let the players take a bite ofcourse but what will happen when the players will know they have committed cannibalsim? is that sanity or curruption or even both? and if so a lot of hivers have eaten the sausage and the palyers will let it out about the sausage. how big can the havoc be?

Let the players be from wherever, the Inquisition can easily relocate them to where their Inquisitor would find them more useful. As for the group splitting up, if it's not in the Inquisitor's best interest then he won't be too happy if they lose sight of any task he's set before them. Even in sandbox video games there are specific objectives to be completed. Sure you may have free reign of the city but at times you also have a job to do.

As for the sausages. Perhaps a point of insanity and some vomiting if they fail a willpower roll. Corruption should only apply when the direct influence of the warp is involved through daemonic possession or abuse of sinister pacts and powers.

Stop wasting your time with them. You seem to have spend a lot time with planning and building a world as plausibel and detailed as you can imagine. If your players are that destructive, talk it over with them or find some one else who values the work you put into the game.

If this isn“t an option for you, charge upon them the task to "built chars that WILL work together".
