Quick Question

By McRae, in Mutant Chronicles

Before I start spending money on this game, is it blind purchase or fixed purchase?

Fixed purchase.

I have a very difficult time not saying something about this and keeping a clear conscience. The game is more than likely canceled, and we can't get responses from FFG to confirm otherwise.

If you're comfortable with that and just want to play a good game irregardless of continuing support, then by all means go for it. There are lots of good people here that intend to keep playing no matter what.

Thanks for the info. Why is the game getting cancelled? Low sales?

In order (I follow this game project since march 2006) :

  • Important delays in launching (2 years and a half) - Bad points for players
  • Commercial communication without products (6 months before the boxset release) - Bad points for distributors
  • Scaling of the releases (if you want play a complete faction, you need to wait all the releases) - Bad points for players
  • Numerous warpacks (how you manage to stock them in shop) - Bad points for distributors
  • Default in commercial communication (default of official planning, just indirect news) - Bad points for distributors
  • Bad coordination with foreign distributors (delays from one to two months) - Bad points for players
  • Low sales (more a consequence than a cause) - Bad points for distributors
  • Disruption of commercial communication (since january, a complete blackout from FFG) - Bad points for players
  • Waiting for the releases of the last figures from the starter set - Bad points for Fantasy Flight Games

Else, the game itself is fine ... gui%C3%B1o.gif

How old is this game? I've got some space marines (or type figure) that were from a box from the early 1980s (not sure, they didn't belive in copyright and trade mark dates back then I guess. I cant even find out which company produced it) that bears a lot of similarities with Warhammer 40k (I'm painting them up to use as devestator squads actually) but I was told they were mutant chronicle pieces.

The box is labled 'space rangers' and has 'grenaiders' as the model type. I was told they pre dated the games workshop line of figures (though from the introduction to the book 'inquisiton war' it seems that they had other warhammer 40k figures that pre dated the rogue trader release too)

I'm not sure what to think of them.

So the pieces are definatly not Mutant chronicles? hmm... ah well, not like I care, they look cool.

I'm a little bent people are now discouraging new players from even starting. OK, then canceled the map pack. From a business perspective that makes sense right now, as not all players would buy it.

Online resources are a good thing. They cared enough to do that, and it probably meant overtime for FFG staff. Worried about the printing cost at kinkos? Make a friend or two over there and buy them Iced Mochas or get them to print at a discount. Maps are done.

The base set is not officially out of production, and even then he may enjoy the game as much as we do.

You can get figs at great prices right now, how is that not at least one plus?

If you are interested in the game, go for it man. Two of my friends have purchased starters in the last two weeks. Aside from the Big Two (there isn't even three out there) it's as good an investment as any other brand right now.

Yes this game will be a cult classic, and what we own will be really cool minis selling at ebay for the double cost in only one year?? Nah, I dont know - but it is a fun game to play, and you need to think strategic for 3 hours without you able to leave the game board with your eyes planning the next turn and taking damage from guarding enemies camping the battle field. You should buy what you like of it, maybe two or three fix packs.

I did no such thing -- I'm merely being honest, because I think honesty is deserved. If people are comfortable with the state of the game, then I wholly encourage them to play it, because it's a good game. But they need to know where it stands.

Well put Nullstate. and if you want to play I do recommend the game. I would probably go with Algeroth or Brotherhood because their lists are most complete. But Brotherhood and Karak with Ice Golems is nice too that way you have a good guy and a compatible bad guy army. I am going with Capitol because I like to convert stuff and I have allot of Inquisitor models from GW (I a sucker for dead games lengua.gif ) So I am making my own capitol force with converted figures. Bottom line is have fun and play. End of Month I will have my Capitol figures and review of how I converted them.

Some Conversions would be cool Liss, I think many of us would like to see them.

Wasn't meaning to criticize you Null, it just took a 2nd perusal to see any encouragement in the post. You support a lot of games and we appreciate your efforts.

Shrap, no worries at all... you had a valid concern with the best interests of the community in mind.
