PDF's for beginners game characters

By TylerTT, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire Beginner Game

I sent a message to customer support asking if they could provide pdf's of the beginners game characters and was wondering if you guys also wanted such a thing. I plan to run the game for a few diffreint groups and would love to make extra coppies from the real source files and not lame scans.

We all use tablets, PDF's would be great. But it appears that isnt going to happen.

yeah sad thing about the PDFs. my hope is for more apps and app content.

I hate to say it but PDF's are going to happen, for everything they release. they wont be leagal but they will exist. my hope is that they will provide something better. in the imortal words of GabeN Piracy is a service problem.

Have access to a scanner? Make your own. Want it fillable? There are free places online to add fillable cells to PDFs.

I dont like the way scans look. (as i said in my OP) and i see little reason for FFG to not provide the charter PDF's eventually. Granted they are content but i dont think giving people just those as pdf would devalue the box set.

just bought the dice app, it's cool. i hope they add more content to it switching apps from dice to character sheets would be a PITA.

WotC had this problem too. Under the license agreement with lucasfilm all "electronic games" are the realm of lucasarts and not that of the holder of the tabletop games license.. And the way the license is written a PDF of a RPG book is considered to be an "electronic game".

They can still put out some things like adventures as "promotional materials" but an actual rule book for sale would violate this agreement. Even a character creation program is considered one of these electronic games.

While its possible that some things have changed in between WotC and FFG (like the dice roller being allowed). I'm not holding my breath for a PDF of any book.

That said if they do put anything out as a PDF I'll be right there buying with the rest of you.

Since I use them for different purposes, I've occasionally purchased a hard copy AND a pdf.

I would also like to see a PDF of the four core characters from the box set for the same reason of me running it for a couple of different groups. I know it's nothing that a scanner can't fix, but it would be really convienent if the PDF was there.

After all, they where really generious with putting out the PDFs of the two extra characters and another adventure for free (thank you guys, btw), I don't see why it would be a copy write thing to put out PDFs of the four original characters.

Cheers!

It isn't a copyright thing.

Not sure, given the LFL licensing, that they could justify putting up printed material as "supplemental" freebies for electronic download.

It's something they would have to clear with lucas as it was not part of the plan (receaved a responce, they have no plans to upload the pdf's). clearing anything is work hours and logistics, it may not be impossible though i dont expect it.

Personally I dont think it would devalue the box set the characters need the basic rulebook and module to be usefull And the value of the box set is in those rulebooks, dice, tokens and map. the character flios are great but disposeable.

I will buy the books. They're comfortable and handy to use.

I would also buy the PDFs, if they are made available. They're essential for things like tables and searches.

They could always put up a pdf of a balnk character sheet, and that way you could just fill it in for the starting characters.

One option you could do is use the Character Sheet pdf that FFG have out on the Beta Support page and just print what you need and copy the info over that way you could ignore the printed mistake on Pash's and Lowhhrick's spent experience pages when it comes to that part.

I've put together a blank character sheet for the Beginner Game. (See my signature for the download links)

I haven't had time yet to add fillable form fields. Maybe in a few days. In the meantime, I'd be willing to share my source files if anybody wants to take it from there.

thanks that was exactly what I was looking for

I have Acrobat 9 and could make a form-fillable PDF from the files, Aazlain.

I wouldn't mind pdf's of the pregenerated characters much in the same way as the two extra characters. I've already ran this box with two groups of people and more want to play, so having disposable sheets is a lot cleaner than using scrap paper to not mess up the actual handouts.

Kinkos is your friend… or Staples or any Office printing store. You can make copies or scan them to PDF.

Hi

I've uploaded a new version of the character sheet:

  • Whiter background for improved lisibility and printer friendliness.
  • Removed a superfluous proficiency dice from the dice pool column. (Max is now 5)
  • Added a "Career?" column to the skill list.

See my signature for download links.

There is no reason FFG can't put up the beginer characters up in PDF, they have already put two extra characters up, so the whole PDF thing looks like it applies to original characters.

Except these won't be as clean as an original print master such as the two extra characters. More of a consistency issue. Also, while I don't have them in hand, it's not FFG's wishes to allow you to photocopy them (I could be wrong, but I don't remember seeing that anywhere on the booklets) And like others have said there's no real reason why they can't upload them.

Thanks, Aazlain.

For those interested, here's the character sheet , modified to allow those with Acrobat Reader (as opposed to the full Acrobat Application) to be able to fill out and save a character sheet.

Good work.

It's worth nothing that the sheet was made with the Beginner's Game in mind. It would need to be redisigned to be used with the core game. (Specialization, Skills List, Critical Injuries, Motivations, Obligations)

The license does not permit PDFs of any of the products. Lucasfilm forbids it.
