Post your Kessel Run results here (especially if you won)

By El_Tonio, in X-Wing

I won my Kessel Run event here in Peoria, Il at Just For Fun Games.

Red Squadron, 98 points:

Wedge Antilles

  • Marksmanship
  • R5-D8

Luke Skywalker

  • Marksmanship
  • R2-D2

Biggs Darklighter

  • R2-F2

I am not 100 % on the details of each round, but here goes…

Round 1:

I faced off against another Rebel squad, featuring Wedge, Horton, and ….Luke I wanna say? We were maneivering around, and firing off afew potshots, when I decided to get a little bold. I jumped Wedge and Biggs into the 4 Kiogran turn, hoping that it would bring me around to fire on my opponents from behind. It worked, and I was able to harass him and wipe out his whole squad. 1-0

Round 2:

Another Rebel 3-ship squad. Wedge, Horton, and Biggs I beleive. Some bad rolls, some ill- planned maneuvers, and I lose, total wipe, 1-1.

Round 3:

Imperials, running Vader, Backstabber, Howlrunner, and 2 generic (I forget which) pilots, with swarm tactics. I knew right away that Howlrunner had to go. I ended up killing Howlrunner in the mid game, and his Vader only rolled maybe four attacks all game due to running into ships, not being pointed the right way, or asteroids. I was able to finally kill his last ship on the last turn when time was called, and I had all 3 ships still on the table. 2-1.

I make the finals due to tiebreakers, not losing any ships in my last game helped. I pick rebels and get to fly the Faclon! It is a tank with 5 sheilds and 8 hull, and the game came down to time being called with My Falcon being my only ship, being shot at by Soontir Fel. I win on points and take the Falcon!

Changes I would make:

I never once used the droid on Wedge. Maybe a different droid or upgrade?

My reports are in the Battle Reports section. i didn't want to hijack this thread, so just made my own. One more tourney tomorrow…i mean today…guh.

Good luck and have fun :)

hi all!

hit two venues today fielding,

VADER w/ swarm

Howler w/ swarm

4 Academy Pilots

scored a falcon and a slave 1. i guess it was a good day :D

less than 12 hrs until the next one. here's hoping to score another firespray!

Won my LGS's event today. Started at 6:00PM at Wandering Dragon in Plainfield, IL.

Played a Vader/Concussion/Swarm team (have another event and may play the same team so I don't want some unknowns). Ended up playing against 3 Rebel teams. 8 players, 5 Rebel, 3 Imp. Top 2 were Imp players.

Chose Falcon for the last round and after the first exchange I had a huge lead. I took out Fel early, and had 2 damage on the other T-I. After that it was just a lot of mop up to bring home my Falcon.

10 person tournament in North Carolina. After an embarassing first round loss with the worst luck I've ever had, I managed to win the rest of my rounds and place 3rd. I was running Wedge with Marksmanship and R2-D2, and 3 rookie X-wing pilots.

I think you were my opponent in the last round. Good luck tomorrow.

hey highball!

yup that was me. thanks and good luck on tuesday!

Game Shoppe - Bellevue - 1st Place

Darth Vader + Swarm

Howlrunner + Swarm

4x Academy Pilots

First round mirror match (except for the Obsidian he had)was a 3 Point Victory for me, I don't honestly remember it well but it was a good game.

Second Round 5 points for me, against Wedge, Luke and H-guy Y-Wing. Got more shots at Luke than I would have liked, would have rathered them at Wedge. But Luke went down quick, then was able to get Wedge.

Round 3 was going to be an issue. Doug Kinney and I squared off in what seemed to be an early win, against 2 Rookies, Luke and a Gold. Life was going pretty well when I managed to down both Rookies with minimal losses. He got Howlrunner early, and that eliminated my 3- 9 Shooting option and lost that reroll. My heart positively sank when he got 4 hits with Luke and I failed to negate a single one of them (I was using the App, for the record). Ion Cannon took down the last point on Vader that turn. Doug conceded though, because we had quite a bit of time, and the final on that table would have been 4 Academy pilots vs. 1 Gold. Great game all around.

Round 4 was against a local, Chris Brown. I'd lost to his 3 Rookie, Wedge with Swarm before, so I knew what I was getting into. I'm not sure entirely why, but I went for the rookies first, lowering his shots considerably. Dancing at one of the board edges, we came down to points at the end in time and I managed to get 5 points due to cost differences, I don't rightly remember what was on the board, though it was Wedge I think, Vader most likely, and like 2-3 Academys.

I chose Slave-1 because I didn't want to soil my hands with Rebel ships, and Chris Brown had the Falcon. After a neat early barrel roll with Slave-1, I found myself spending most of the game with S-1 sitting entirely on asteroids and taking damage from it nearly every time. Thanks to a tip from Doug Kinney, I made a point to keep my Interceptors at a fairly reasonable range. I loved both their configurations, for different reasons. I got some good shots off with the 9-skill guy, and had an utter blast using his special ability nearly every turn, paired with a green move to continue doing it. I knocked out Arvel first, then lost my 9-skill. Then took out the other A-Wing with minimal damage. With everything I heard, I didn't really care to shoot at the Falcon unless it was my only option. In case you were wondering, S-1 spent nearly all this time hitting rocks, and bumping A-wings or otherwise not having a firing solution. I had the option to run, Chris was on one side of the field with the Falcon, my Interceptor with Stealth (had it nearly until the end of the game), and S-1, with about 1 Shield, could have probably evaded him until match time. Instead, I really decided everyone who had stuck around to watch deserved a show, and I wanted to see if I could actually pop the Falcon or die trying. After a re-engage, I brought the Interceptor to bear and he finally got to use Chewie on a crit. S-1 came around a little slower than I would have liked, hitting a rock or two, trying to avoid rocks, bumping the Falcon… intentionally bumping the Falcon to cause problems (while on a rock and taking damage for it). The Interceptor went down at last, in the very final turn we played, and Chris got the minor win from that bringing both our scores to 18, my Tiebreakers being only a couple points higher to put me in first.

I sit here a very tired, proud owner of a Slave-1. Gotta go find some more rocks to run into.

Also, for any curious, I really didn't feel skewed one way or the other with the app. I feel the results I had would have been on average, around the same as what it had been with physical dice.

Took 1st out of four at the Kessel Run event at The Game Preserve in Indie. Only four people came, but it was still some good matches.

I ran 3 X-wings and a Y-wing

Luke w/ R2-F2 and Determination

Rookie w/ R2 Astromech

Rookie w/ R5 Astromech

Gold Sqaudron w/ Ion Cannon

I won the first match complete victory vs. a mirror sqaud (but he played wedge instead of luke), and then went straight to the wave 2 match where I played the rebels again. I took out the opposing inteceptors within the first three turns, and my opponent accidentally ran the slave run out of play after destroying one A-wing and losing the other to an astroid. LOVE the falcon (and got to take it home with me). It's very expensive, but there's so much you can do with it, and the 360 primary's with it's huge base means you're reguarly in range 1 of another ship and are rolling 4 attack dice. I'm not sold on the A-wings just yet, especially after seeing how incredible the interceptors are. The Slave I felt pretty much evenly matched against the Falon, and really comes down to load out there. All in all, wave 2 adds SO much to this already great game. New types of upgrades, co-pilots, new weapons, AoE attacks. I can't wait until it releases and I can pick the rest of the ships.

I was the other person to show up so I got a Falcon, an A-wing, and an Intercepter. The me and the tournament organizer played 2 games with the new ships and went home. He got the Firespray, an A-wing, and an Intercepter.

i managed to win 1st place at my LGS, using 8 acadamy pilots.

i was the only empire player out of 8 people.

split into 2 groups of 4 T.I.Es, and attacked one x-wing at a time from the sides where possible,

got some strange looks for choosing the tie interceptor as a prize though lol. i couldnt help myself.

nice! chose interceptor over falcon and slave. wow none would have seen that coming. good on u.

Oops, I meant ONLY person to show up, the other person was the tournament organizer.

I honestly think the Firespray and YT are almost perfeclty even, and the only thing that would put one ahead of the other is loadout. So I think must people picked on coolness factor (as I did, because it's the freaking MILLENIUM FALCON), or based off of what faction they play the most (which also happened to be rebles for me conveniently).

There was 8 of us so the TO done single elim.

4 Rebel players

4 Empire players

we ended up with Rebel V Empire on all round one I used

Mareek sttle w/ conss and marksmenship.

Howlrunner with her swarm tact

mithral with marksmenship

black squdie no upgrade

acadmy pilot

my 1st game was agsent luke /w Proto and R2, Driers with marks, and horton with proton ion

The game lasted 1 hr and whent to time the TO/judge gave us 3 turns as NOTHING had died Red leader had no sheilds left and 1 hull left i got a lucky shot and won on turn 3 of time.

my semi final match was a mirror match witch i lost then in my 3rd/4th playoff i lost again i finshed 4th so i was happy

note all semi finalst where Emprie players

Got into the finals with my 4-ship Rebel build:

-Wedge with Swarm Tactics

-Biggs

-Rookie X-Wing

-Yellow Squad Y-Wing with Ion Cannon

My opponent chose the rebels for the rebels for the final (coincidentally she had played the exact same build as me, except with Expert Handling on Wedge instead of Swarm Tactics). So I took up the Firespray and those **** Interceptors.

I went straight for the A-Wings and got lucky when she kept one A-Wing back so I could just focus on one. After taking out the 2 A-Wings, my Firespray had no shields. The rest of the game was the Millenium Falcon chasing the Firespray around the entire map. It held on for many turns with only 1 hull left, but died in the last turn. So I won by 3 points!

Those TIE Interceptors are really nasty, both the medium ships are very interesting. I really want to like the A-Wings, but I was unimpressed from the game today (and none of the top 4 took them).

I h ad a lot of fun and it was cool to see the top 3 of the 4 be Rebels (out of 10 people playing, with an even rebel-imp split)! And very happy to have a Millenium Falcon. :-)

6 ppl at my event. 3 rebels vs 3 imperials. top2 were both 6 ship imperial builds.

i placed 3rd with this 4 X-Wing squad:

wedge + r2 (+1 agility guy) + swarm

1x Red Squadron Pilot

2x Rookie Pilot

i beat two inperial builds (one with vader, both were 6 ship builds) but lost to the evenutal winner who was playing a 6 imperial build with howlrunner, dark curse, 4 black Sqdron (each with marsmanship).

i won a tie interceptor with my 3rd place prize.

I won the Cambridge MN Kessel Run. 7 Players: 3 Imp and 4 Rebs. I was playing my team I used to finish 6th at Worlds with.

Wedge w/ R2-D2

Gold Squad w/ Ion Cannon Turret

Rookie Pilot w/ R2 Astromech

Rookie Pilot w/ R2 Astromech

First round was against Rebels in a3 ship build with Luke w/ R2, Wedge w/ Protons and Marksmanship, and Dutch. Made a clean sweep taking one damage to one of the rookies due to an asteroid.

Second round was a similar Rebel build, but I did loose a Rookie this outing.

Third Round was finals and my opponent was also Rebel, we flipped to for choice of sides. I took the Falcon and the A-Wings. Dropped the Avenger Squad pilot first, followed up by boxing in Fel and mopping up Kath Scarlet without loosing any ships, but I had no shields left. Finishing first I took an A-Wing, mostly because I LOOOOOVE A-Wings and I knew my opponent wanted the Falcon. Luckily my friend took 3rd and grabbed an A-Wing, he had been playing my Imp squad as a favor to me so I had a chance at a 2nd ship. Kudos to you Skippy for your efforts!!!

8 player event in Auckland, New Zealand. Got the call up the night before the event so I went with a tried and true squad:

Wedge - R2 Astromech

Biggs - R2-F2

2 x Rookie Pilots

Went down pretty hard in the first round after some poor dice at the wrong times, but I managed to pull off 2 5-point wins to get into top 4.

I went up against a TIE swarm, 8 Academy pilots. I managed to isolate and neutralise the TIEs pretty effectively, taking down 4 TIEs in 2 turns of shooting for only the loss of Biggs.

That put me in the final with a good mate of mine who played Imperials. We were running short of time so played a super-quick game which was more of a formality. I didn't expect to win it at all and neither of us were playing particularly seriously as we knew we would both have access to the ships in the future anyway, but after taking some damage preventing turns, Slave 1 attempted a Koiogran turn a little too close to the board edge and flew off into oblivion!

So I managed to come out with the Falcon against all expectations! I was pretty happy with how the squad played and I managed to maneuver well in most games to avoid getting swarmed. The squad went really well in the Rebel mirror match, sweeping the table twice. I'm excited to get my hands on some A-Wings but in the meantime I'll be experimenting with the precious!

Went 3-0 and then won the Falcon.

We had 6 players - 3 rebel, 3 imperial.

I won with a 3 ship Rebel build:

Wedge - Torps, Marksmanship

Biggs - R2-F2

Dutch - R2-D2, Torps, Ion Cannon

1st game I played against a 6 ship Tie Fighter build. Took out Backstabber, Mithel, and a generic guy for the loss of biggs.

2nd game was a mirror match and I was facing Wedge, Luke and Dutch. I killed Wedge on the first pass, and also took out Dutch before losing my first ship. Luke managed to take out Biggs before biting the dust. I won that won in about 30 minutes.

3rd game I faced imps again. Made sure I took out Vader on the 1st pass, and managed to take out 3 of his 5 fighters for no loss when time was up.

The finals game I faced the same player I played in Round 2. I took the Imps side for variety (I finished top of the table and had the choice of rebel or empire)

The game was a stalemate, excepting that a lucky shot of mine took out an A-Wing, meaning I won when time ran out.

Won 3-0 as the Empire at Game Kastle in Fremont. Very unusually there were only two Imperial players out of seven total… and the other Imperial player flew 3x TIE Advanced… basically the ships his buddy wasn't using as the rebels. All the rebel builds seemed to be around three ships, typically 2x X-Wings and 1 Y-Wing.

I was basically running Obsidian squadron sans Night Beast, who was probably sleeping in.

Howlrunner

  • Swarm Tactics

Winged Gundark

5x Obsidian Squadron Pilots

My strategy used Gundark's flight group (Beta) as the hammer to wack the rebels into the Anvil (Howlrunner and her buddies). When I mashed the rebels in between, typically Howlrunner was able to influence a lot of TIE pilots. There were some traffic control issues but merficully no asteroid collisions. My first opponent rammed Luke into one though, and was finished off next round by the TIEs.

Basically nobody there was prepared to face a TIE swarm. Massed firepower outweighed what the rebels could field and I ended the first match in 45 minutes, the second in a half hour. Neither of my opponents fielded Biggs, just Luke, Wedge, and Dutch as named enemies. Ironically in spite of their losses, because they lost the match to me, they maneged to place higher than some of the others in their modified matches.

I chose my list over the pure 8-fighter group I was running previously (4 obsidian, 4 academy) and this seemed to be the superior list that brought me to victory.

I selected the Empire to play for the last round, underestimating my opponent and suffering emberassing die results early on. Two interceptors could not take down a single A-Wing and I lost both of them before the climax of the match. The firespray managed to turn around and nail both damaged A-Wings, before finally taking on the heavily hit Millenium Falcon and finishing him off with the rear guns. For putting me on the ropes and making it such a close match, I gave my opponent the Millenium Falcon while I took the Slave 1. I also noticed after the fact that I didn't give Fel the stealth device and instead gave it to the Firespray, where it failed the first time it was attempted. Oops.

All in all I had great fun and it was nice to discover that there IS an X-Wing following locally. Before this I was wondering where all the players were… here's hoping for more in the future?

I didn't get a look at the Rebel ships too closely, but from what I can tell about the Empire I have to wonder how balanced the list really is… or what strategy FFG had in mind when putting it together. The named Firespray pilot is good if he causes crits when Cheiwe's ability is used… but you're mostly trying to stay at range 2-3 to use your heavy laser in conjunction with your merecneary co-pilot to cause extended range hits at 4 dice. In practice, I also used the Firespray's aft-mounted shooting at range 1 to do some real damage to the Rebel players.

I wanted to believe in TIE Interceptor but the combination of terrible dice rolling luck and having too few fighters left me underwhelmed. When the TIE/IN is ultimately released I plan on fielding no less than three of them in any list not reliant on regular TIE fighters. They shoot great and have incredible manuverability but just couldn't get it together at this level. Fel's ability worked only once, and while he would have been great to tangle with the A-Wings his prime opponent of this match was the Falcon, which as we all know shoots anywhere.

In the endgame I suddenly realized how fragile the A-Wings are compared to every other fighter on the Rebel side- at 2 hull points. It's the same grind for any other Rebel ship but they pop quickly after their shields are down, and with no droids they're never getting them back. Moreover if a crit gets through and it's the wrong crit card, suddely you've one-shot-killed an A-Wing. In the climax of the final match I was basically able to pop the two of them across two turns by being in the right place and letting them have it with the heavy lasers. Crits weren't important, but I had enough aggregate kills with the additional dice to make it.

Now that Ihave the slave 1, I want to experiment with the bomb options. Basically they're space mines and for those who don't know they come in two options, a prox mine and a time-detonated mine. The Prox one would work great in asteroid fields and I'm kind of curious why they didn't include it in the list for the tournament.

Auckland, New Zealand

8 Players, 5 Imperial, 3 Rebel

I was playing a 4 ship Rebel build

Wedge + R2-D2

Grey Sq + Ion Cannon

2 x Rookie Pilot

Game 1 was against 8x Academy Pilots. We traded a Rookie for an Acdamy pilot. After a few turns of manuvering , it came down to the last dice roll on the last turn. I needed two damage to win, I rolled 3 hits, he rolled two dodges. This player finished 3-4th

Game 2 was against 4 X-wings (biggs, wedge and two rookies). Some amazing rolling on his part and terrible rolling on mine, lead to me losing Wedge in one round of shooting. With 3 further turns, I had lost the two rookie pilots and surendered. This player finished 1st

Game 3 was against Darth, 2 other named Ties, 1 Obsidein Pilot and 2 Academy Pilots. This game went a lot better for me, managed to draw my opponent into chasing my rookies around asteroids, leading them into the waiting sights of Wedge and the Grey Sq. Took down all but Darth, only lost one rookie.

So I finished 1-2 on 5 points, but had a great day none the less. Had a great time shooting down Tie Fighters, and it was great to see a fellow rebel player take the win

TnT said:

Q: how did Garven pass the free focus to Wedge? Wedge has his combat round befor Garven, so Garven would not be able to use his focus (and thus pass it to Wedge) until after Wedge had shot…

Wedge with swarm tactics lets Garven have a 9 pilot skill as well during the combat phase.

We had 16 people show up for ours, which was way more than I expected. We had 11 Rebel players and 5 Imperials. Several of the Rebel players only used 3 ships (usually Luke & Wedge plus a Y-Wing with Ion Cannon). I didn't keep track of who ran what squads for the top 4, but there were two Rebels and two Imperials in the top four.

In the final game, the Rebel side was able to kill off two TIE Interceptors before the Imperial player could even take out one A-Wing. The dice were not working well at all for the Imperial side. With the Millennium Falcon having only 3 hull points left, an A-Wing finished off the Firespray in turn 4 (if I remember correctly).

TnT said:

We had six show up at Game Knight in Winnipeg. I ran Luke (swarm), Dutch (ion) and two Rookies. I went up against an 8 Tie swarm in round one. My opponent misplotted a key move, and my dice were hot. He ships were battered, but all the Rebels survived. Second round I faced a three ship Rebel build (Wedge, Biggs and Dutch). I timed my approach well, and avoided the torpedoes, then carved Dutch away from Biggs and took the kill with hot dice. I didn't receive a single damage card. We had 4 Rebel builds and 2 Imp builds. I think a number of the players just didn't have the number of ships needed fo an Imp build. I played the Rebels in the finals. A-wings are a ton of fun zooming around. And the Falcon is a BEAST. My dice stayed hot, but I lost both fighters before the Facon took out the Firespray. I took the Firespray as my prize. In part cause now I get to try this one too. And also cause I think I am going to get a couple of 'em. It was a blast. Thanks FFG and Game Knight (Scott, the owner, gave away all six ships, so everyone came away with a prize)

I played in this event as well. Had a lot of fun and managed to come in second place despite the fact that I was dead tired and my old man arthritis was killing me.

My squad was:

2x Red Squadron X-Wing w/ Proton Torpedo

2x Red Squadron X-Wing

My first match I lost two X-Wings and only had the oppertunity to use one torpedo before we hit time. Was up against 4 TIEs and Vader in the Advanced. I only managed to take out one ship, but that was Vader so I'm still going to count it as a moral victory.

Second match was against Luke, Biggs and Dutch. I managed some really nice rolls during this match and ended up wiping them out. Only lost one X-Wing -- before he managed to fire off his torpedo -- and used the second torpedo.

If I remember correctly TnT was the only one able to pull out two wins, but I had the highest point total of 1 : 1 group, so I got to play in the last match.

The Firespray is huge . I'd been up for almost twenty-four hours by the time we got to that match -- I work overnights -- and could not for the life of me -- or Kath Scarlet -- figure out the spacing. Think I bumped into every ship and asteroid on the play field.

As TnT said, he took the match and the Firespray, and I've got myself a sexy new YT-1300. Time to build a Death Star II Lando / Wedge team.
